Grey Central Echo Preschool bus safety Wednesday morning On Wednesday, May 1, Grey Central School will be having preschool bus safety at 9:15 a.m. Miss MacKay's classes are planning to start working on the earth friendly gardens. They will be growing both flowers and vegetables which hopefully will be ready before the end of the school year. The afternoon class is doing probability in math. Mme. Colquhoun's classes are doing fun activities like verb quizzes, questions and drills. Through the last week there have been a couple of birthdays. All of Mme. Colquhoun's classes have started a new unit in French. Mme. Colquhoun has had an excellent week. In Mrs. Scott's class they learned the letter Q. They made pop-out flowers. They made pirate hats to wear while they're building a ship out of blocks. They made queenly crowns with sparkles (for the letter Q). They painted cats and read the hook Cats, Cats, Cats. In their journals, they drew pictures of pets. Mrs. Bowler's kindergarten class is learning the letter V and doing measurement in math. They also are making washing colour art and working on rhyming words. They love their new computer program, Plumo on the Farm. Miss Hill's Grade 1 class is singing three songs for the spring concert. In math, Mr. Park's class has been regrouping in addition and subtraction. In science, they walked to the pond to gather materials to set up a pond aquarium in the nature centre, They have placed tadpoles, crayfish, caddisfly nymphs and diving beetles. they had a visitor named Mrs. Weitzel and she helped them make stories. In Mrs. McKeon's class, the students are doing measurements using scale weights. In art, they're doing pictures about A Slice of Huron in Seaforth and spring pictures using different shades of green. Mrs. Murray's Grade 4 class is doing Accelerated Reader quizzes on the computer. Mr. Walker's Grade 4/5 class is reviewing the last 10 lessons in spelling. In art the class is doing shadows of pictures. In music they are learning notes. The kids are doing Greek plays in social studies. They are doing probability games in math. Some of the games are called: To the Circle by Lynn Boyer, Rebecca Wilbee and Tone Clark, The Chance and Skill Game by Denica Zwep. Another game is The Everything Game by Jolanda Smith. On Monday, April 29, the students are performing their dance videos. In the last week of Silver Birch reading, Anna Glen reports she has just finished all the Silver Birch books. Each of the Grade 6s who have qualified to vote by reading at least five of the 10 nominated books will be casting a vote for their favOurite Silver Birch nominated At its April 23 meeting Huron East council discussed a request from the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority to have two municipal employees help with the Brussels dam. Previous to this time local farmers had provided some help. According to Councillor Joe Seili Brussels works'employees had also helped add and remove the heavy timbers at the dam gates. Councillor Bill Teal! commented that he wondered if this was the first step in the dam becoming a municipal responsibility despite the fact that the authority received funds from the province to maintain the flood control system. Permission was given after a rider was attached to the motion stipulating that the municipality was to be compensated for the employee's time. *** Councillor Dick Burgess reported briefly on the legal action concerning the Seaforth High book on Friday, May 3. In Miss Henry's class, they have been reviewing for their history test. The topic of the study is The Loyalists. In science, they are continuing their_ study of Ecosystems. In geography, they are studying their third unit, which is Canada's Natural Resources. Grade 7 attended Tech 21 last Friday at LDSS. In science, Mr, Payne's Grade 7/8 class is learning about light and colour energy. In math, they are learning geometry, They have learned five new songs. / School. He said that although the judge had removed Trustee Charles Smith from the action, the complainants were still moving ahead. Burgess reported the judge had not found the motion out of order or frivolous and had ordered the board to take no action until the motion had been heard in court. A court date has been set for May 23 in Toronto. If it is not heard at that time a July date is possible. *** Mayor Lin Steffler reported that four individuals would be interviewed for the position of economic development officer on April 26. *** Council added its voice to the growing clamour against the deregulation of Ontario's electrical system. They endorsed a resolution from the City of Windsor to institute an immediate delay in the province's plans for deregulation.
