PAGE 15. From the Minister's Study Spring brings sense of vitality, vigour By Rev. Dave Wood Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church A farmer was driving along the road with a load of fertilizer. A little boy, playing in front of his house, saw him and called, "What've you got in your truck?" ' "Fertilizer," the farmer replied. "What are you going to do with it? asked the little boy. "Put it on strawberries," answered the farmer. "You ought to live here," the little boy advised him. "We put sugar and cream on ours." And very soon, strawberry season will be here again! Don't you just love spring with all the exciting discoveries that it brings'? Bulbs and plants that were laid into the earth last fall are, now appearing and for the life of you, you can't even recall planting them. Spring brings with it a sense of excitement, vitality and vigour. As flowers bloom and buds appear, the miracle of growth explodes. Miracles are around every corner and this year, a local miracle, Fran was out transplanting irises! Growth is amazing and it is always fascinating to observe how quickly it takes place. One day a little head is attempting to peek out of the ground and the next, a daffodil has taken its place. It is as if, you turn your head for a second, and wham! Kids seem to grow in the same way and I am beginning to understand why older folks instruct that time flies and to make the best of what time you have. Jesus kind of said the same thing. In the Sermon on the Mount He tells us not to worry about life, what we will eat or what we will wear. Yet how much of life is caught up in just these things? The bent of much of our world is toward self- preservation and rightly so, we need to survive. But in our attempts at survival have we opted for second best? Material things define the pursuit of happiness and has this pursuit been acclaimed with success? Jesus said, "Seek first His NOTE: The Minister's Study "Time spent with Carl" in last week's issue of The Citizen was written and submitted by Rev. Brent Kipfer of Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. But the message that is often heeded is one of non-stop pursuit that in the end leaves anxiety, worry and frustration in its wake. Jesus would remind us, as we witness once again the miracle of spring, that a still greater miracle exists. The Father, who feeds the birds and clothes the grass of the fields loves, His children and if but given the chance, will prove His love in the provision that He is more than willing to make. This spring, consider the lilies of the field, the birds of the air, the miracles of nature and the One who is able to meet all your needs in Jesus! fiviig i Valet. 3 Citridtiart reliefs/up' May 5 Fit to be tied Actually only the quilt was tied up as bidders did a lot of waving at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church auction and dinner on Friday night.
