A fundraiser for the Blyth Festival, the book sale features thou- sands of paperbacks and hardcover hooks. A children's section is always piled high. Harlequins, CDs, cas- settes and video tapes are also avail- able. The world-famous rhubarb cus- tard pies can be purchased by the slice or whole to take home. Admission to the hook sale is free and most books are priced at $1 with some exceptions for new hooks and CDs. Additional deals are available on romance books and records. Items to he donated to the Book Sale can be dropped off at the Blyth Memorial Hall the week of May 27 to May 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. New or used hooks, CDs, tapes, and video tapes are gladly accepted. Magazines, text books and Reader's Digest are not accepted. For more information or to volun- teer to move, sort and sell books or work in the kitchen, call the office at 519-523-4345. Entertainment & Leisure A winner Four-year-old MacKenzie Chalmers, daughter of Lynn and Darryl, showed winning form recently taking the top prize at her first-ever dance competition in London. (David Blaney photo) Blyth girl wins dance competition A four-year-old Blyth girl took top marks at a recent dance competition in London. MacKenzie Chalmers, daughter of Lynn and Darryl, competed at DanceFest, held at the University of Western Ontario's Talbot Theatre. Her jazz routine to My Boy Lollipop earned her first place in her division and the top mark overall in the Novice category. MacKenzie has been taking lesson in jazz, acro and tap; since she was two-and-a-half at the Jo Read School of Dance in Centralia. This was her first competition. Her adjudicated mark was 84.5. Kirkton-Woodham topic of HCHS The Huron County Historical Society held a meeting on Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bayfield United Church. President Ross Duncan welcomed everyone then had a moment of silence in memory of Don Jenkins, a councillor, who passed away on April 12. The minutes were read by Rae McFarlane. Guest speaker was Patrick Donnelly, who is with the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation. He spoke about, and showed slides on how the history and settlement of the Lake Huron Shoreline has been influenced by natural coastal processes, such as changing lake levels and erosion. The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation is a registered, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the conservation and wise stewardship of Lake Huron. The annual meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kirkton-Woodharn Community Centre. Guest speaker is George Burgin, who will talk about the very early history of the Kirkton-Woodham area. The election of officers and coun- cillors for the coming year will also be held.
