(Vicky Bremner photo) The April 22 issue of Maclean's Magazine extols the virtues of what it calls. 'beautiful places off the beaten tourist track.' In an article called Hidden Gems in the Hinterland, Huron County is one of six places mentioned from across Canada. Like all visitors, the author of the article has been beguiled by the magnificent sunsets and welcoming beaches of the Huron shore. His suggestion that the perfect end to a summer day is to sit on the bluffs overlooking the lake as the sun goes down has been followed by many. Several places are mentioned as 'must sees' for the visitor. Bayfield with its convenient marina and 1850s* downtown is described as charming, but "just this side of twee". Goderich also gets mentioned for its Victorian mansions, Court House Square and Gaol as well as its museum where the two-headed calves seem to have captured his attention. Benmiller with its beautiful Maitland River setting, complete with fly fishermen and comfortable inn for the more sedentary is pictured as a haven of peace and quiet. The Blyth Festival is mentioned as both an outdoor and indoor feast for the mind. The Outdoor DonnMys- in- June and the indtror , season following are suggegted as something not to be missed. With everything from the theatre to antiquing and winter sports Gatehouse clearly believes that more tourists should take a trip to "Ontario's West Coast."
