FROM WALTON
Milverton
minister preaches
Greeting members of Duff's
congregation were Shannon
McGavin and children Jacob and
Mackenzie.
It was pulpit exchange Sunday so
congregants welcomed Chris
Beaumont from St. Paul's United
Church in Milverton. He is also the
chaplain at both Wingham and
Listowel hospitals. Joan Tuchlinsky
was at Milverton in his place.
After opening prayers and
announcements, the senior choir
sang All Night Long.
The children's time -was
entertaining as Rev. Chris
demonstrated a science project. He
had a light assembly vase of water
and salt. He showed them how the
light would light up by touching the
two wires together after plugging the
light in. He then put the wires in the
vase of water and his volunteer
helpers Brian McGavin and
Monique Baan plugged in the light
again — but nothing happened.
After unplugging the light he
added tablespoons of salt to the vase
of water. He inserted the wires again
and had Brian plug in the light. The
salt was a conductor in the water — as
Christians need to be, he said. The
children left with the message they
can be the light of the, world and the
salt of the earth.
The Old Testament lesson was
read by Olene Dennis. Rev. Chris
relayed his sermon, Jesus the
Restorer.
The offering was taken by Jim
Mann and Ross Bennett.
Greeters for this week are Howard
and Audrey Hackwell.
Baptism is this Sunday, as well.
There is an urgent appeal for the
food banks in our area as they are in
desperate need of more non-
perishable foods. Make donations at
local stores or bring donations to the
church and they will be delivered.
The Georgian Bay Chinchilla
Club of Western Ontario held its
annual Club and Claiming Show at
the Walton Hall. There was a
wonderful turnout with over 75
animals, up from 50 last year, being
shown by .approximately 12
ranchers. They came from all over —
Owen Sound, Simcoe, Brampton,
Goderich, Lucknow and in between.
The 4-14 Chinchilla Club
organized a potluck lunch for the
ranchers, then held their meeting
downstairs as well. ,
Ray and Barb Storey are the local
ranchers. They have 700 animals
and would be considered hobby
ranchers. A female chinchilla can
have a litter every 114 days of one to
three babies. They are weaned at six
weeks and are kept for nine months
to one year before they are shipped.
The Storeys are organizing the 4-
H Chinchilla Show and Auction to
be held May 4 at 10 a.m. with the
auction at 11 a.m. Everyone is
welcome to drop into Walton Hall
and see what it's ail about. They
have a professional judge from
Brampton attending for the judging
time and Jim Campbell will be the
auctioneer.
Some members of the Ryan family
attended the first communion of
Holly Ryan in Goderich. Holly is the
daughter of Mike and Kathy Ryan.
Attending were Bob and Nora
Humphries, Chris Humphries and
Sarah, Gerry, Anne and Matt Ryan
from Walton..
It was pancake Tuesday at Walton.
Inn last week and an impromptu
gathering of friends for Marie
McGavin's birthday was held. Irma
Pryce, Anne Ryan, Jeanne Kirkby
and Joan Tuchlinsky were a few who
dropped in for the delicious
pancakes and to say happy birthday.
The Rita MacNeil concert was just
wonderful according to Helen
Brenie, Anne Clark and Judy Lee.
The Walton Little School is
always a busy place and this week
the letter X was popular. They were
busy making cards and signing Xs
and Os for hugs and kisses. The
game Xs and Os was also very
popular. They were also learning
about preparing seeds for the
garden. They were soaking bean
seeds to plant in their garden,
They practised their fire drill on
Wednesday and were out in record
time.
The school is welcoming Nancy
Bartz as a guest speaker tomorrow
night on organizing your home. She
is a mother of 10 who home schools
her children. Contact the school for
tickets ($5) and funds raised go to
new playground equipment.
Visiting Lavern and Marion
Godkin, was the daughter Dianne
from Edmonton, Alberta. She works
and teaches in research at the
University of Alberta and is working
on her PhD in nursing.
She was in Toronto 'on business
and took the opportunity to also,
come home for a few days.
Congratulations to Manny Taylor
and Andrea Henry on their
forthcoming wedding. Their buck
and doe was Saturday night at
BM&G with a good crowd
attending.
Paul Dolmage and Erin
Jamieson's buck and doe was also
Saturday night in Seaforth where a
good crowd was on hand as well.
Walton people are 'busy attending
both.
Chris Lee was lucky to receive
tickets to the Supercross held at the
Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.
There were 59,000 fans in
attendance.
Congratulations to the Brussels
Midget girls hockey team as they
competed in Brampton for the
provincial championships. They
won the silver medal on Sunday
afternoon in a 3-2 loss to Kingston.
The top eight teams in the
province were in the competition.
They played Friday and lost 3-0 to
South Point. On Saturday they
garnered two wins, defeating
Kingston 1-0 and Flamboro 4-0.
Sunday morning's win against
Cambridge 1-0, put them in the final
against Kingston. They played a
great game with Kingston scoring in
the last minutes of the game for the
win.
Congratulations to all the team
members and the coaches, Jim
McDonald, Steve Cook and Doug
Burkhardt.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week, but not getting any older I'm
told, were Marie McGavin, Bette
McDonald, Bonnie Hastings,
Heather Blake, Shannon Craig,
Doug Mitchell, Jack Ryan, Katie
Emmrich, Jennifer Williamson,
Theresa Pryce, Sandra Sholdice,
and Mitch Blake.
