A NOTE FROM BETTY
Well, it's limb picking season and
everyone seems to be in rhythm. The
sticks get to new positions in the
yards ready for the raking time to
follow. That's the one downer of
UCW plans
meeting
for friends
The Brussels UCW met in the
church parlour on Wednesday, April
3.
Genie Keilington gave a spring
poem. Betty Campbell led in the
singing of Give Me Oil.
Scripture was Mark 10: 13-16..
Stories were read from the Alert
notice, and the Perth-Huron Annual
Presbyterial Day.
Worship closed with the UCW
benediction.
Money was given to Camp
Menesetung as well as the Steward
and Mission and Services fun6.
The May meeting is on May 8 at
the church at 6 p.m. All ladies of the
church can bring a friend to supper.
spring but it does give the muscles
involved a good kick start.
It's good to see everyone out
biking, boarding and walking. Time
again to catch up with the
neighbours.
Doreen Dale died this- week and
I'm sure she would have enjoyed the
celebration of her life. The chatting,
the stories and the laughter all were
things that Doreen enjoyed most
with others and so we did it right as
we remembered her role in our lives.
It was good to tell the stories of our
past. The Callander Nursing Home
stories again gave us much joy and
giggles.
Then we got the call that Donald
Jenkins (my mom's brother) from
Bayfield had died. suddenly as well.
This was a family reunion. Stories of
the past again celebrated a life well
lived. Uncle Donald was a retired.
engineer and so our goodbyes were
fun and efficient. Nice touch the
Laura Secord chocolate as a nibbler.
So as much as I'm a little sad right
now that these two nice folks are
gone from my life I'm so pleased to
have been part of their lives in the
past giving me great memories to
share. So thanks Doreen and Donald
for letting me (and many others)
share and celebrate your lives.
There is a party at Sholdice
Insurance on Friday. Doug and staff
are giving Mary Bone a good
sendoff to retirement. On April 19
the insurance world is saying Thanks
to Mary for 29 years -in the business.
Starting as the office girl for Jim
Cardiff using her trusty pencil, Mary
kept up with the numbers. Along the
way she adjusted her work to
become a registered broker and used
the computer as her office assistant
as she moved to working with Doug
Sholdice. ,
So be sure to drop in to the main
street office on Friday to say thanks
and congratulations. Welcome to a
more relaxed lifestyle Mary.
Come to the United Church on
Saturday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. to
support the youth group. They'll
feed you, entertain you and show
you some auction items you may
need in your life — it sounds like fun.
Mike and Dan Pletch, sons of Don
and Connie of Lucan and grandsons
of Tom and Edna Pletch and the late
Jack and Kathleen McWhirter, all of
Brussels, played with the Canadian
rugby team in Italy to a
championship win. Well done.
Bye now, Betty G. W.
Lodge meets
Morning Star Rebekah Lodge
315, Brussels, held its regular
meeting on Tuesday, April 9 with a
fair attendance.
Sister Lorraine Edwards has been
unable to get out to meetings and
Sister Nelva Scott is now home from
hospital but her recovery is slow.
The charter of the lodge which
had been draped for 30 days in
loving memory of Sister Jean Bridge
was undraped.
On Monday, April 15, several
sisters presented the travelling gavel
to Huron lea Rebekah Lodge,
Clinton.
Sister Sarah Stephenson and
Sister Lois McCall volunteered to
sell tickets for the Rebekah draw, at
the IOOF chicken supper,
Wednesday, April 17.
Plans are beginning for the annual
Friendship Night on Tuesday, May
28 at Brussels United Church. The
organization is experiencing
financial difficulties and a
committee volunteered to see how to
deal with this problem. Hopefully in
the near future all members will be
contacted with this information.
Happy Birthday was sung to
Sister Jane Hall.
