Hats for health research
Last week the student council at Hullett Central Public School had events every day to help
raise money for Jesse's Journey in aid of cell and gene therapy. Joan Vandendool's Grade
2/3, taught for the day by Principal Lois Tebbutt were happy to contribute a small fee for the
privilege of wearing a hat in class. (David Blaney photo)
The members of , Londesboro's
Happy Gang Seniors appreciated
the presentation by Janice Cosgrove
and Janet Cameron at their monthly
on March 27 at the Londesboro
Hall. The women brought updated
information about the proposed
amalgamation of Goderich
Alexandra and Marine Hospital and
Clinton Public Hospital.
The crux of the message was that
health care services as we in Huron
County have known them are
disappearing. Therefore, the
medical boards have no choice but
to deliver them in a new way.
Hospitals are dealing with shortages
of money and trained medical
personnel. The proposal being

A Barrie firm has been awarded
the $459,000 contract to conduct a
groundwater study in Huron County.
County council Thursday
approved the hiring of International
Water Consultants Ltd. County
Planner Scott Tousaw said one of the
attractions of the Barrie company is
that it will work with local firm B.
M. Ross and Associates giving it
local contacts.
A contract to carry on the
telephone answering service for 911
emergencies was approved by
Huron County council, April 4.
Under the contract with Seaway
9-1-1 Communications, the service
will cost the county $31,090.13
compared to $87,3466.46 in 2001
when Bell Canada provided the
considered is for a new state of the
art facility of 90 to 100 beds which
will also have the latest in
technology for use.
A question and answer period
followed the presentation and
provided more information for the
concerns of those in attendance.
In other business the members
were notified that the date for the
birthday celebration at Huronlea has
been rescheduled for June 25. Harry
Lear suggested everyone attend the
Poor Boy Luncheon on April 12
from 11:30 a.m. to .1 p.m. at the
Betty Cardno Memorial Centre in
Clinton. There will be d9or prizes
and entertainment. Proceeds will
support the daycare program.
In answer to a question from
South Huron Councillor Joe Hogan,
Tousaw said currently the county
has money budgeted to cover all
costs, even those studies of local
water wells that might reasonably be
paid for by the municipality.
It would be up to county council
to decide if municipalities should
pick up a share, Tousaw said. If such
a decision was made, the province
would still bear 85 per cent of the
cost, leaving just 15 per cent to the
municipality.
service.
Bell had informed the county late
last year that it didn't want to
continue providing the service once
its contract with the county ran out
this September.
The winning bid was the lowest of
four proposals which ranged up to
$58,066.
