Brussels Livestock report
2,166 head of cattle sold at week's end
Total receipts for the Brussels
Livestock for the week ending April
5 were 2,166 head of cattle, 495
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold at prices $3 to $5 higher.
The cows traded $1 to $2 higher. On
Thursday the veal traded on a steady
market. The light lambs sold under
pressure while the heavier lambs
sold at prices steady to last week. On
Friday both calves and yearlings
sold on a strong active trade at prices
$1 to $2 higher.
There were 289 steers on offer
selling from $112 to $118 with sales
to $130.50. Murray Forbes Farms
Ltd., Clinton, consigned one
limousin steer weighing 1,290 lbs.
which sold to Norwich Packers for
$125.50. Their overall offering of
fifty-five steers averaged 1,436 lbs.
for an average price of $113.70. One
charolais steer consigned by Perry
Sereda, Centralia, weighed 1,500
lbs. selling to Aylmer Meat Packers
for $125. His overall offering of
forty steers averaged 1,435 lbs. for
an average of $117.84.
Cornerstone Acres, Chesley,
consigned ten steers averaging 1,401
lbs. selling for an average of $115.36
with their top black steer weighing
1,475 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats
for $117.50. Eight steers consigned
by Brian Bearss, St. Marys, averaged
1,312 lbs. selling for an average of
$114.56 with one RWF steer
weighing 1,340 lbs. selling to
Norwich Packers for $118. Neil
Thompson, Atwood, consigned ten
steers averaging 1,427 lbs. selling
for an average of $113.67 with his
top blonde steer weighing 1,335 lbs.

On March 18, the 4-H Machinery
Club held its fourth meeting at
Logan Farm Equipment. The
meeting opened with everyone
saying the 4-H pledge.
They then split into two groups.
The first group went with Dan and
Rob who spoke on small parts on
tractors and showed us where they
are .located on the tractors. The
second group went with Tony who
Showed them how the injector pump
There are many groups and
individuals throughout the county
who promote pork in many different
and creative ways. The Huron
County Pork Producers are initiating
an award to recognize these efforts.
The winner of the award will receive
$300, a plaque of recognition and
media coverage acknowledging the
promotion/event.
Any community group/individual
promoting pork is eligible to apply.
A brief essay outlining the
promotion/event, with photos
included, is to be submitted with the
application.
Judging will take place, by the
directors, prior to the annual meeting
in January each year, when the award
will be presented.

for an average price of $112.42 with
sales up to $115.
Murray Shiell, Winghant,
consigned one gold steer weighing
1,510 lbs. which sold for $113.75.
His overall offering of fourteen
steers averaged 1,509 lbs. selling for
an average of $109.72. Eighteen
steers consigned by Bruce Robinson,
Freelton, averaged 1,566 lbs. selling
for an average of $107.31 with sales
up to $115.
There were 164 heifers on offer
selling from $112 to $118 with sales
to $126.25. Merkley Farms,
Wroxeter, consigned two limousin
heifers averaging 1,240 lbs. selling
to Norwich Packers for $126.25.
Their overall offering of six limousin
heifers averaged 1,295 lbs. selling
for an average of $123.26.
One limousin heifer consigned by
Hugh love, Atwood, weighed 1,245
lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for
$125.50. His overall offering of
twenty-one heifers averaged 1,314
lbs. selling for an average of
$115.32. Chuck Durrer, Mildmay,
consigned two limousin heifers
averaging 1,410 lbs. selling to
works and some of the parts of the
injector pump. The two groups then
switched places.
When finished they went upstairs
and took up the test from the last
meeting.
The fifth meeting was held at W.
G. Thompson's in Hensall on April
1. The president opened the meeting
with the 4-H pledge, then the
meeting was turned over to Barry
and Marty.
Members split again into two
Dominion Meats for $115.50. One
limousin heifer consigned by Rob
Dekens, Clinton, weighed 1,305 lbs.
and was purchased by Moyer
Packing Co. for $115. Doug Durrer,
Mildmay, consigned two hereford
heifers averaging 1,318 lbs. selling
for an average of $114.66 with sales
to $115.25.
One limousin heifer consigned by
W. R. Gardiner Farms Inc., Staffa,
weighed 1,105 lbs. and sold for
$119.50. Their overall offering of
nineteen heifers averaged 1,271 lbs.
for an average price of $114.26.
Decroft Farms Ltd., clinton,
consigned four heifers averaging
1,465 lbs. selling for an average
price of $113.27 with their top black
heifer weighing 1,400 lbs. selling for
$117. Six heifers consigned by
Norm McClinchey, Auburn,
averaged 1,233 lbs. selling for an
average of $110.75 with sales up to
$114.
John Van Nynatten, Mitchell,
consigned two red heifers averaging
1,115 lbs. which sold to Highland
Packers for $117.25. 'His overall
offering of thirteen heifers averaged
1,157 lbs. for an average of $110.34.
Five heifers consigned by Karl
Terpstra, Mitchell, averaged 1,202
lbs. selling for an average price of
$109.48 with his top black heifer
weighing 1,260 lbs. selling to
Aylmer Meat Packers for $114.
There were 256 cows on offer. DI
and D2 cows sold $70 to $75 with
sales to $95; D3, $60 to $70; D4, $50
to $60. Sprucecove Farms Ltd.,
Atwood, consigned one holstein cow
weighing 1,290 lbs. selling to
Packerland Packing Co. for $95. His
overall offering of three holstein
cows averaged 1,567 lbs. for an
-average of $78.20. One black cow
consigned by Craig Eurig, Mount
Forest, weighed 1,450 lbs. selling to
Phckerland Packing Co. for $87.
Earl French, Lucan, consigned three
holstein cows averaging 1,370 lbs.
selling for an average of $78.78 with
sales up to $86.
There were 11 bulls on offer
selling from $77 to $85 with sales to
$93. Warren Weppler & Sons Ltd.,
Clifford, consigned a limousin bull
weighing 1,660 lbs. which sold for
$93. One limousin bull consigned by
Irvin Schenk, Petersburg, weighed
1,850 lbs. which sold for $91.50.
Ralph Matthews, Auburn, consigned
one simmental bull weighing 2,845
lbs. which sold to Aylmer Meat
Packers for $85.50.
There were 214 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $100 to $140;
Holstein, $90 to $95 with sales to
$101; Plain Holstein, $70 to $80.
Grey Luyten, Wingham, consigned
one limousin veal steer weighing
730 lbs. which sold for $140 to
Glenview Livestock Ltd. One blue
veal steer consigned by Grofield
Farms, Walton, weighed 690 lbs.
selling to Holly Park Meat Packers
for $130. They also consigned seven
holstein veal steers averaging 670
lbs. selling for an average of $89.43
with their top holstein veal steer
weighing 685 lbs. selling to
Abingdon Meat Packers for $101.

Ontario Pork Producers offer
promotionincentive award
4-Hers learn from farm businesses
groups. Both groups were given a
tour of the storage sheds and they
got to see different kinds of seed
bags and seeds. They then went to
see where they clean the beans. They
also got to see where they store the
_beans until they are shipped.
Next they were shown where they
mix fertilizer.
Members then toured the shop
where terra-gators, liquid fertilizer
tanks,., and other equipment are
repaired.
They went back to the meeting
room where they asked questions
"about the different parts of the plant.
Each was given a sample of soy
nuts.
