Obituaries ALMA HUGILL Alma Hugill of Egmondville and formerly of McKillop Twp., passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at London Health Sciences Centre. She was in her 70th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Leverne Hugill who predeceased her in 1985. She was the dear moth- er of Janice and Martin Swinkels, Stratford, James and Gwen Hugill, Seaforth, Lyn and James Jutzi, Brussels and Leanne and Ted VanDyk, Seaforth. She was the lov- ing grandmother of 10. Mrs. Hugill was the dear sister of Anne Barry, Manitoba, Mary Koebel, Kitchener and Helen Wesenburg and Lorraine Dale, both of Seaforth and sister:4n- law of Ron Dale, Ivin Shannon, Charles France, Joyce and husband George Miller, Casey McCutcheon and Ron Driscoll. Besides her husband, she was pre- deceased by a daughter, Lori Reid (1985), parents, Ferdinand and Wanda Smith, father-in-law, Joseph, Hugill and mothers-in-law, Norma Hugill and Helen Hugill; sisters, Edna Shannon, Adeline Voissin, Freida Wudrick, Esther France, brothers Adolf and Walter Smith and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gerald Voissin, Emil Wudrick, Arnold Barry, George Henderson, Gerald Koebel, George Wesenburg, Emily and Charlotte Smith, Gwen McCutcheon and Karen Driscoll. Family received friends at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7- - 9 p.m. with an Eastern Star Lodge memorial service at 9 p.m. Funeral service was held at First Presbyterian Church, Seaforth on Saturday, March 20, at 11 a.m. Rev. Nicholas Vandermey officiated. The eulogies were given by James and Gwen Hugill and four of her grandchildren. Organist was Carol Carter, pianist was Grace Jutzi and soloist was Louise Monteith. Pallbearers and flowerbearers were her grandchildren. Interment will be in Maitlandbank Cemetery, Seaforth. Memorial donations to Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation, London Health Sciences Centre (ICU - University Hospital) or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympa- thy. BOB BATEMAN Mr. Bob Bateman, husband of the former Margaret Cathers of Ethel, passed away suddenly -on Friday, March 29, 2002, in his 74th year. Surviving is his family Elaine Ceal and husband Roy of B.C., Lucy Sproul and friend Reinhard Jesse of Kitchener, Carol Bateman and friend Bill of Brussels, Gail and husband Terry Sproul of RR3, Brussels, Wendy and husband Dan Dillon of Wroxeter, Glenda and husband Gerard Ducharme of Ethel, 17 grandchildren and six great-grand- children. Also surviving are three sisters-and a brother; Helen and hus- band John Coghlin of Listowel, Bruce Bateman and wife Ursula of Stratford, Marjorie and husband Jim Struthers of Ethel and Doris McNeilly of Waterloo. He leaves a sister-in-law Jean Bateman of Ethel, brother-in-law Pete Dragomatz of Oshawa, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Bateman was predeceased by his parents Cecil Bateman and the former Mary E. Ames, one daughter in infancy, a grandson, a brother Donald and a sister Jean. Visitation was held at Peebles Funeral Home in Atwood, on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The service and committal were held on Monday, April 1 at 2 p.m. Spring interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel. Pallbearers were Rob, John, Andy and Jeff Sproul, Tony and Joe Dillon. Flowerbearers were Kyle Bateman and Karrie Dillon. Rev. Joan Golden officiated. THOMAS GEORGE EDWARD HALLAM Thomas George Edward -Tom" Hallam of Goderich and formerly of Auburn passed away at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Wednesday, March 27, 2002. He was in his 73rd year. The beloved husband of the late Verna Hallam, he is survived by his step-sons Norman and Elaine Culbert and Bruce and Betty Culbert, all of Goderich and by his mother Viola Rose Hallam of Luck:low. He was the grandfather of Shelley and Steve Price, Cindy and Bruce Siertsema and Bruce and his friend, Stacey. He was great-grand- father to Nicole, Tyler and Brett. He was the dear brother of Dorothy and James Schneider of Auburn, Beth and Robin Wormington of Bluevale, Fred and Dorothy Hallam of Kincardine, a brother-in-law to Leona Hallam of Kingston, Cec and Lois Hallam, Ross and Joan Hallam, all of Goderich, Roy Hallam and Jim and Marilyn Hallam, all of Lucknow. He was predeceased by his father Charles Hallam and brother Leslie Hallam. Friends were received at McCallum and Palla Funeral Home, Goderich on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. Pastor Sharon Willis-Whitwell officiated. Interment will be in Ball's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Norman Culbert, Bruce Culbert, Roy Hallam, Jim Hallam, Dennis Schneider and Bruce Culbert Jr. Flowerbearers were Angela and Pamela Schneider. Memorial donations to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowl- edged. HARVEY JOHN WIGHTMAN Harvey John Wightman, _ of Lucknow, passed away at his resi- dence on March 20, 2002. He was in his 73rd year. Born in West Wawanosh Twp. on Oct. 8, 1928, Harvey was the son of the late Earl Wightman and Aleda Mathers.. He graduated from the Niagara Park School of Horticulture in 1952. In 1956 he joined the staff of the City of Waterloo where he worked in the city planning department until his retirement in 1989. He is survived by brothers, Alvin and wife Evelyn of Niagara Falls, and Norman and wife Florence of West Wawanosh and sisters, Margaret and husband John Hildebrand, of Goderich and Hattie Boothman of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Harry Boothman. Visitation was held at MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow on March 26, from 3-5 and 7-9. The funeral service was from the Lucknow United Church, Wednesday, March 27, at 1:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. G. Lazaro. There will be a spring internment at the Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. The flowerbearer was nephew Eldo Hildebrand. Pallbearers were nephews Ray Hildebrand, Allan Hildebrand, Andrew Boothman, Murray Wightman, Glen Wightman and Brian Wightman. Honorary pallbearers were friends Tom Lobb from the-Huron Fringe Field Naturalists, Doug Smith from the City of Waterloo and Harold Crawford and Bill Snowden of the Niagara School of Horticulture Alumni. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lucknow United Church or the Federation of Ontario Naturalists.
