the situation demanded
acknowledgment that something
great was truly happening.
You might expect a king honoured
at a triumphal entry to be obviously
happy, waving to his supporters. Yet
this "coming King" was crying out in
a different fashion. Jesus knew that
before the week was out, he would
be hearing another crowd shout,
"Crucify him!" Bystanders at the
foot of the cro,ss would be pointing at
the sign nailed above his head -
"Jesus of Nazareth, King of the
Jews".
So Luke's record stales, "As they
came closer to Jerusalem and Jesus
saw the city ahead, he began to cry.
'I wish that even today you would
find the way of peace. But now it is
Nora Saunders- of Lucknow, Lloyd
and Jean Saunders of Glencoe and
Lottie Scott of Be[grave.
Besides her husband and parents,
two sisters, Freda Broome and • Ha
Saunders, predeceased her. .
Visitation was at the MacKenzie &
McCreath Funeral Home in
Lucknow from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on
Sunday, March 17. Rev. P. Kinsman
officiated at the service held from the

Monday.
Carrying floral tributes were two
of her great-grandchildren, Nathan
and Jenna Thompson. Pallbearers

Grant Helm, Tom Broome, George
Gibson and Gary McInnes.

too late, and peace is hidden from
you... Your enemies will not leave a
single stone in place, because you
have rejected the opportunity God
offered you.—
Rather than being elated by the
sight of the cheering crowd, or
disturbed by the critics, the "King"
wept for a city that refused to accept
salvation on God's terms.
The Kingdom Jesus sought to
bring was not a temporal
institutionalized earthly structure,
but God's governing of repentant
hearts through the Holy Spirit,
resulting in righteousness, peace, and
joy on a personal basis. (Romans
14:17)
Where do we find ourselves in the
parade scene? Are you crying out
"hurray!" with the crowd, perhaps

HAZEL IRENE PETTS
Miss Hazel Irene Petts of London
passed away peacefully at Grand
Wood Retirement Home, London on
Saturday, March 16, 2002. She was
in her 94th year.
She was the beloved daughter of
the late William J. and Ida J. Petts of
Blyth, Ontario and dear sister of the
late Clayton Petts of Niagara Falls,
Ontario. She is survived by her
sister-in-law Dorothy (Petts) Karkus
and is the dear aunt of Carolyne
Mottola and her husband Alf, Sharon
Cole and her husband Dave and

by her great-nieces and great-

expecting God to deliver something
on your terms rather than His? Are
you looking on skeptically from the
sidelines with the critics, protesting
that all the fuss is misguided if not
devilish.
Or maybe your cries are not those
of acclaim or criticism, but sobs
resonating with a Saviour's heart.
You share his burden for a lost world
that seems resistant if not incapable
on its own of recognizing God's
offer of help and hope for our
deepest, eternal needs.
In our materialistic and affluent
North American society, some of us
are dreaming of salvation in
monetary form, waiting for our
economic "ship to come in". For
many, the economic picture is not
bright as the gap widens between

ROSS MCTAGGART
Mr. Ross McTaggart of Mitchell
Nursing Home, formerly of Brussels,
passed away at his residence on
Friday, March 15, 2002 in his 86th
rich and poor. Author Leonard Sweet
reports that one-half of one per cent
of U.S. households own 40 per cent .
of the nation's wealth. The inequality
of wealth now stands at a 63-year
high. Globally, "in 1996 the total
wealth of the world's top 358
billionaires equaled the combined
incomes of the world's 23 billion
poorest people, almost half of the
world's population."
"More and more people have
multimillion-dollar annual incomes,
while approximately 1.3 billion of
the world's people struggle in
desperation to live on less than one
dollar a day." Ought not such
statistics make anyone cry, even if
they're not Saviour of the
world?
But the solution to our problems is
year.
Surviving is his daughter Gail
Smith of Brodhagen; a daughter-in-
law, Doris and Dave Luna of
Mitchell; grandchildren, Rhonda and
Pete Kaufman of Mitchell, Becky
Smith and friend Mario Trapana of
Barrie, Deb and John Welch of
Kitchener, Andrew and Wendy
McTaggart of Dublin and two great-
granddaughters Courtney and
Kylie.
He was predeceased by his wife,
the former Audrey Beuermann, a son
Douglas, son-in-law Spin Smith, his
parents and a brother Elwood.
By his request a private family
service was held on Sunday, March
17 at Peebles Funeral .Home in
Atwood.
Spring interment will be at
Brussels, Cemetery.
not purely economic. More money
does not gtiarantee more happiness.
The same author reports, "More
than 3.5 million households in the
United States enjoy a net worth at or
above $1 million — the greatest in
history. Also for the first time in U.S.
history, more millionaires are below
age fifty than are above it. [Yet) The
faster we are gaining more wealth,
the more people are being diagnosed
with depression."
Take time this Easter to sort
through how God, might be offering
to respond to your personal cries.
Roll out the carpet of your heart for a
crying King who offers' you the
opportunity of God's best for your
life: Jesus, "righteous and having
salvation, gentle and riding on a
donkey..." (Zech.9:9)
Minister says to 'roll out the carpet' for King
