4-Hers
tour
Stratford
plants
By Andy Pethick
On March 4, the 4-H Machinery
Club held its third meeting at Allan
Haugh's shop.
Chris Regele read the notes of the
last meeting, then the meeting was
turned over to Mr. Haugh. He started
by talking about antique • tractors,
showing his collection which
includes steam engines to the
modern day tractor.
Members watched a movie about
the biggest tractor in the world
named Big Ben.
After the move, the president gave
a quiz on where past meetings were
held, who the speakers were and the
different safety symbols on
machinery.
On March 12, the club went on ,a
trip to Stratford to visit three
factories. The first was Honeywell,
formerly Fram. Here they saw how
different types of filters were made.
At FAG Bearings, they toured the
plant and saw many different types
of bearings being made.
The third and final stop was
Cleaver Brooks. Here they were
shown how boilers are made. The
day was full of information, a lot of
walking, but everyone seemed to
enjoy it.
Thank you to our leader, Carol
Anne Regele for arranging these
tours.

Afternoon
UCW
Unit
The Afternoon Unit of the UCW of
Knox United Church met March 12
at the home of Mary Taylor.
Kay Roberts was in charge. She
welcomed everyone and thanked the
hostess.
Pat flunking, Janisa Coultes and
Mary Taylor combined the worship
and study portions of the meeting. As
this was the Easter meeting, the first
Bible reading was from Luke, the
Last Supper, followed by a reading
from Exodus of the first Passover.
Members then read from the book,
The Eleventh Hour, by Michael
Phillips. It is fiction, but he relates
how a Christian baron and a Jewish
rabi were trying to escape the Nazis
in 1942. The last evening that they
were together they combined the two
very sacred religious ceremonies.
Mrs. Roberts presented the Bible
study, then closed the meeting with
the UCW benediction and said
Grace. A social time followed with
Mrs. Hunking providing
refreshments.
