Pulling out the stops
The Brussels PeeWee Reps skated to a 3-3 tie against Cayuga at home on Friday night in the
best of five All-Ontario semi-final series. The contest moved to Cayuga Monday night and the
hosts edged the visitors 2-1. The do-or-die game was played in Brussels on Tuesday night.

Midget
Dogs
oust
Bothwell
The Blyth Midget Bulldogs picked
up two wins this past weekend to
eliminate Bothwell seven points to
three.
The Bulldogs will now face
Sunderland in the Midget E AII-
Ontario finals. Play will commence
this coming weekend. The first game
here is Sunday at 3 p.m.
Game four was played in Blyth
Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs
scored twice in the first minute of the
game and led throughout to post a 7-
2 win.
Rob Archambault led the way with
a hattrick. Micah Loder scored twice
while singles went to Cole Stewart
and Matt Bromley. Assists were
recorded by Nick Courtney, three;
Kirk Stewart, two; C. Stewart, two;
Bromley, Neil Salverda, Josh
Albrechtas and Loder.
The Bulldogs travelled to Bothwell
on Sunday. This game was a close-
checking affair, however the Dogs
did finally score in the second frame
to carry a 2-0 lead into the third
period. Blyth outscored Bothwell 3-2
in the last period to register a 5-2
victory.
Goaltender Travis Shelton had a
great series in the Blyth net.
Archambault again led the way with
three goals, with Bromley and Loder
tallying the other goals. Assists went
to Mike Bean, three; C. Stewart, Paul
Walker, K. Stewart, Andy Toll and
Ryan McClinchey.
Skaters
compete
in Sarnia
Skaters from the Brussels, Blyth
and Wingham, Skating Clubs
travelled to Sarnia on March 8, 9 and
10 for the 2002 31st Annual Western
Ontario Section Winter Skating
Invitational Competition.
The results were as follows:
Pre-Preliminary A, first, Laura
Youngblut, Blyth; first, Corine
Falconer, Blyth; second, Christine
Seili, Brussels; second, Brittany Bos,
Blyth; second, Laura Bowers,
Brussels; fourth, Jory Lyn Uyl, Blyth.
Preliminary A, first, Katie
McClinchey, Blyth; second, Ashley
Sholdice, Brussels; fifth, Cassandra
Uyl, Blyth.
Preliminary B, fourth, Bridget
Blake, Brussels.
Junior Bronze A, seventh, Regan
Moran, Wingham.
Junior Silver A, fourth, Ashley
Warwick, Wingham.
This is the last competition of
the season and all the skaters had
good performances. They are all
coached by Michelle Blake of RR2,
Brussels.
The spring skating session begins
at the Lucknow Arena on March
25.
It was a tie and a win for the
Brussels PeeWee Local League
when they met Wingham in WOAA
play last week.
On March 6, Brussels hosted the
Wingham squad. With Scott Phillips
bulging the twine for the lone home
team goal in the first, assisted by
Jordan Campbell, the squad went
into the second period down by two.
The visitors widened the gap soon
after play began. Then Shayne
Cochrane and Steven Ropp each lit
the light to bring it closer before the
buzzer ended the period. Brad
McKague assisted on both Brussels
goals.
Down by one, the hosts battled
back to tie it off the stick of Adam
Blyth PeeWee Bulldogs hosted
Wallace in the opening game of their
best of five playoff series.
Josh Albrechtas got Blyth rolling
putting a nice wristshot by the
Wallace goaltender, assisted by
Justin Dobie in the second period.
Darcey Cook upped the Bulldogs
lead to 2-0 scoring on a scramble in
front of the Wallace net assisted by
Kyle Nixon and Kendall Whitfield.
Wallace got one back before the end
of the period.
A determined Blyth squad hit the
ice for the third period. Albrechtas
threaded a beautiful pass to Cook
who skated in alone on the Wallace
netminder and beat him with a shot
to the top shelf for a shorthanded
goal. Cook would combine with
Albrechtas again getting his hattrick
with only minutes left in the game.
McClure, with helpers from Chase
Chapman and Mitch Blake. With
five minutes remaining, it looked
bad for the home side when
Wingham took the lead once more.
But less that three minutes later
Ropp tied things up with his second
of the game. Assists went to
McKague. and Phillips.
It was a different story in
Wingham the next night as Brussels
came away on the winning side of an
11-3 score.
Mitch Blake got this started with
an unassisted effort, but this was
cancelled minutes later. The visitors
broke the tie then less than a minute
later scored to take a one-point lead
into the second. Phillips and Ropp
Brussels Bulletts travelled to Port
Elgin for their final game of
provincial playdown action with
Saugeen Shores.
The Bulletts jumped into the lead
with seconds remaining on the clock
in the first period.
Michelle Cook skated the puck
into the Saugeen zone, then dropped
a pass to Ashley Ritchie who tired a
hard shot at the Saugeen goalie.
Rachel Elliott picked up the rebound
and stuffed it in for a 1-0 Brussels
lead.

The second period was all
Brussels, with the hosts shut down
and the visitors adding five. Scoring
were McKague, Chapman,
McClure, McDonald and Blake.
Assists went to McDonald with two,
Ropp, McKague with two and
McClure.
Wingham tried in the third scoring
one early in the period and a late
one, but with the visitors increasing
their large lead by three more it was
out of reach.
McDonald, McClure and Phillips
scored with assists from McKague,
Ropp and Cochrane.
Midway through the second
period. Michelle •Nixon backhanded
a pass from Kristen Palmer and Jenn
Hopf into the Saugeen net to
increase the Bullett lead.
Saugeen Shores didn't give up
however and managed to score two
goals of their own before the end of
the game to leave this contest a 2-2
draw.
This eliminated the Bulletts from
the chance to play at the provincial
championships in Mississauga in
Apri I.
