Looking for local heroes
There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.

Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards.
Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of
the Blyth and area and Brussels and area communities to receive an
award for contribution to the community. If you know someone you

UCW to host St. Paddy's luncheon

of euchre
in play
There were nine tables of euchre
in play on Wednesday, March 6 at
the Women's Institute Hall.
Winners were: high lady, Mabel
Wheeler; second high lady, Louise
Bosman; most lone hands, Lois
Chamney; low lady, Jane Grasby;
high man, Bob Grasby; second high
man,. Walter Elliott; lone hands,
Alice Nicholson; low man, Ross
Taylor.
The next euchre is Wednesday,
March 13 at 8 p.m.
Twelve tables of shoot were in
play at the Community Centre on
Friday, March 8.
Winners were: high lady, Helen
Casemore; second high lady, Nell
Johnston; most shoots, Lois
Chamney; low lady, Jane Grasby;
high man, Bev Hayden; second
high man, Jim Coultes; most
shoots, Ross Taylor; low man,
Evelyn Christensen.
The next shoot is Friday, March
22 at 1:30 p.m.
WMS meets
The WMS held its meeting
Monday, March 4 at the home of Ivy
Cloakey.
Freda Scott presided and opened
with the Purpose and Call to
Worship.
The Easter service in The Glad
Tidings was used with all taking
part. Christ the Lord is Risen Today
and Jesus Christ is Risen Today,
Welcome Happy Morning and
Hallelujah, Hallelujah were the
hymns used. Roll call was an Easter
verse.
Twenty-two sick and shut-in visits
were recorded.
April 28 is Mission Study and
members will be asked to help with
the service.
The evening UCW group at Knox
United Church, Belgrave is
sponsoring a St. Patrick's Irish Stew
Luncheon in the church basement,
on Thursday, March 14 from noon -
1 p.m. Adults are $5 and a family is
$12.
The regular meeting of the
Evening Unit was held Tuesday,
March 5 at the home of Barbara
Anderson. Thirteen answered the
roll with a reference to St. Patrick's
Mabel's Moms met at their regular
time on Wednesday, March 6.
Those who attended were CrYstal
Agombar, Zachari, Nicholas and
Gage; Lila Procter and Jessica;
Donna Raynard, Curtis and Craig.
Their topic was literacy.
The next meeting will be March
20, the week following March break.

Muriel Coultes welcomed
everyone and thanked the hostess.
She read a poem Windows of Gold.
Louise Bosman conducted the
worship service. Scripture reading
was Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8. God Reveals
his Presence and I Know Who Holds
the Future were sung.
The church is holding a sale
including a silent auction on April
20, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
visited with Steve, Nicole and
Katherine Coultes. They helped
Katherine celebrate a belated first
birthday and attended. her baptism in
Scot's Church, Melbourne.
The lucky winners for the
Kinsmen Cash Calendar-draws were:
Feb. 14, $500, Andrew Peterson of
Maine, U.S.A.; Feb. 16, $100, Ross
and Fran McCall, Brussels; Feb. 23,
$100, John Robbins, Brampton;
March 2, $100, Don and Steve
Saunders, Goderich.

The Young People are holding a
24-hour famine March 24. There
will be muffins and juices for them
at the church on the completion of
the fast.
There is lunch after the service
March 17 and March 24.
The April meeting will be held at
the church at 8 p.m. Nancy Corigan
will be the guest speaker.
Sheila ,Nixon introduced the
speaker for this meeting. Marilyn
VanderWoude spoke of dealing with
her cancer of five years ago. She is
now enjoying better health.
She felt her family has coped well
and they are a more closely knit
family because of her ordeal. She
feels closer to her church and
God.
Her advice to young people
included — provide yourself with
disability insurance, be your own
voice, ask questions, talk to doctors
and pay attention. She has found her
daily journal a great help.
