It was no field of dreams during the snow-pitch tournament
held at the Ethel ballpark last weekend. By noon running
shoes needed to be replaced by rubber boots as the rapidly
melting snow left the bases islands in a sea of mud. (David

Looking for local heroes
There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.
Nominate that special person for the 17th
Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards.
Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of
the Blyth and area and Brussels and area communities to receive an
award for contribution to the community. If you know someone you
think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot and send it in. You,
may attach a longer explanation of why you think your nominee
should win, if you like. If you have nominated someone before and
he or she didn't win, please feel free to try again.

Mr. Bob Bremner home from his

him a pleasant recovery.
Last week I mentioned that the

purchasing the equipment with
financial assistance from the
Brussels Optimists. Tickets are now
being sold for a dinner/auction April

with all proceeds going to the
purchase of the Jaws of Life for Grey
Twp. Firefighters and Brussels

If you are approached by a ticket
selling firefighter or Optimist, you
can rest assured that in purchasing a

night of fun socializing for a mere
$20. As an added bonus, along with
that comes the well-being of
knowing that you invested in the
safety of our community members
and the firefighters who volunteer
their lives.
Perhaps some community
members might be struggling with a
case of the "nasties" this week —
those cold and flu viruses that have
doctors' offices and emergency
rooms overflowing,
I thought for the historical glimpse
at Ethel it might be interesting to
note that in a Jan. 26, 1927 copy of
The Brussels Post (graciously lent to
me by Mr. Bill Eckmeir) it states that
Mr. Arthur Ward has been "laid up
fcr a few days with an attack of
Lumbago", W.H. Love has been

the equivalent to a bad cold!)
They sure don't make viruses
sound as interesting as they used to.
Cornerstone Bible Fellowship held
a Kid's Night out "Beach Party" Feb.
22 and Pastor Andrew is quite
excited by the large turnout of
enthusiastic young beach revellers.
Pastor Andrew said that despite the
cold weather outside many children
sported snappy beach attire and a
great time was had.
Robin Dunbar has mentioned that
the petition for the three-way stop in
Ethel has been endorsed by Huron
East council and sent on to the
County of Huron, where it will be
reviewed by the roads committee.
Hopefully there will be a decision
within the next month or so.
If perhaps my tidbits about the
citizen/police meeting in Brussels on
Wednesday, Feb. 20 prompted you to
attend the meeting only to find that,
well, there was no meeting please
allow me to explain. Apparently the
room in the basement of the library
had been double booked that evening
and Const. Dave Gillan was unable
to attend due to some serious police
Cranhrpok Hall last Friday, March 1.
The party was hosted by Cathy and
Frank Workman and Leslie and
Yvonne Knight.
Scores are as follows: high lady,
Helen Dobson; low lady, Isabel
Bremner; low man, Bill Craig; most

Adams; travelling lone hand, Iola
Subject; 50/50, Mary Anne Harrison.

matters. Some resourceful
committee - members held the
meeting at the Brussels Country Inn
and I haven't yet heard how that
went.
As a point of interest, if you did
not attempt to attend the meeting and
are aware of the break-ins and thefts
around Ethel lately, there is no time
like the present to get involved in
protecting our community. Please
stay tuned -for the date and time of.
the next meeting.
Some Ethel and area enthusiastic
ball players were out for a Saturday
of sno-pitch this past weekend. Jane
Stewart, involved in organizing what
she hopes to see as an annual event,
mentioned that there was even a
team from London in the
tournament.
Great community spirit!
