Save $ THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 2002. PAGE 9. Brussels PeeWee squad up 1 in series The Brussels PeeWee Rep team played two games this weekend for the OMHA all Ontario playoffs against Cayuga. Brussels won both games in overtime. Game one was played in Brussels on Friday night, with standing room only for the crowd. Brussels won 3- 2. With no scoring in the first period the fans were fairly quiet, but Cayuga scored quickly in the second period. Brussels did not get on the scoreboard until the third with a nice goal by Matt White, with the assist going to Greg Bowers. Then Chris Corbett netted the go-ahead goal on a great pass from White. With Brussels up 2-1 and only seconds left Cayuga pulled their goalie and scored to tie it up. In overtime the Brussels squad took control and Matt McClinchy netted a squeaker by the Cayuga goalie for the overtime win. With the series tied one apiece Brussels travelled to Cayuga on Sunday afternoon for game three and an important win over Cayuga. Once again Cayuga got on the scoreboard first but Brussels tied it up before the end of the first period with a goal by McClinchy on a nice pass from On guard Kyle Gibson, goalie for the Brussels PeeWee Rep team poke-checks this Cayuaga forward to thwart this scoring chance. The Brussels boys went on to take a hard fought 3- 2 overtime win on Saturday. (David B(aney photo) Bulletts lose 1, tie 1 Brussels Bulletts welcomed Mitchell to town on Tuesday, Feb. 26 for a playoff game. This was a very even and physical match throughout. The Mitchell team found the net first gaining their marker early in the second period. The Bulletts came back on the powerplay before period end when Michelle Cook scored the unassisted goal. There was great end-to-end action provided by these teams. However, with only five minutes to go Mitchell scored a powerplay goal to walk away with a 2-1 victory. Saturday, March 2 the • Bulletts played their third game of their Dogs win series The B.Lyth PeeWee Bulldogs hosted Bayfield Feb. 25 up one game in the -best of three series. Bayfield came out firing and found the net in the opening period. The Bulldogs John Bokhout fired in a shot, assisted by Josh Albrechtas and Devin Jenkins to tie it, but Bayfield put themselves up again by one. Blyth picked it up in second period with Blake Hesselwood scoring, assisted by Krystopher Campbell. A minute- later Albrechtas slapped one by the Bayfield goalie assisted by Brandon Kellington and Hesselwood. Justin Dobie knocked a rebound home assisted by Albrechtas and HesselwOod to up the lead. Bayfield got within one, but Kendall Whitfield and Darcey Cook each scored aunassisted to seal the 6- 3 victory and eliminate Bayfield from playoffs. provincial playdowns hosting Belmont. Belmont got things started in the opening period. The Bulletts came back early in the second period when Ashley Ritchie scored, assisted by Rachel Elliott and Kristen Palmer. These teams had many chances throughout this contest but the Belmont goaltender and Brussels netminder Nicki Berfelz stood tall, to end this game in a 1-1 tie. Adam McClure. Brussels went ahead in the second on another McClinchy goal with the .assists going to White and Mitch Blake. Cayuga managed to tie it up before the second was over. The third was a tense period with Cayuga scoring the go-ahead goal with only 1:38 left. Brussels pulled their goalie and scored. Adam Corbett took the deflection off Chris Corbett. Assists went to Cory Chapman and McClinchy. The goal sent the game into overtime and the Brussels squad once again came out determined to win. McClinchy, with a hattrick, scored the winning . goal, unassi- sted. The Brussels team will play game four of the series in Brussels on Friday night.
