My four-year-old son wants to lead me and his younger brother on a romp through the house. We follow the young leader upstairs, down the hallway, through bedrooms and down the stairs again in endless patterns of marching. We imitate his movements. He leads us on an adventure. "Follow me!" Jesus speaks the invitation to fishermen like Simon and Andrew, and to a government bureaucrat like Levi. They drop what they are doing and join Jesus for an adventure in The February meeting of the Melville Guild was held at the home of Mary Huether on Tuesday, Feb. 18. There were 12 members and two guests present. Jeanne Ireland and Mary Huether were in charge of the devotions. Mrs. Ireland opened the meeting with a poem, Love, which was followed by the singing of a hymn. Mrs. Huether gave a reading, Love is a Gift of God. Wellness day celebrates CWL's 50th Celebrating its 50th anniversary, St. Michael's CWL hosted a successful afternoon of Women's Wellness on Saturday, Feb. 23. The event was enjoyed by over 40 women in attendance. They heard Barbara Chisohm, registered dietician with the Huron County Health Unit, outline nutritional highlights. Emma Franklin, a certified Community Food Advisor, prepared a delicious low-fat brownie recipe. The afternoon also included a Tai Chi demonstration by Jan Vodden and her students and a mini-cardio workout led by Gennieve Madden of the Town and Country Support Services. Linda Campbell, a certified reflexologist, explained the various forms of massage. Light heart-healthy refreshments followed and co-presenters Carol Mcdonnell and Roberta Sarachman declared the event at heart-healthy success. John Oros is a Christian leader from Romania. Last winter I heard him speak about the experience of his local church during the years of communist rule. After public worship services, there would often be people who would come to him and say, "I have decided to become a Christian." Church leaders would invite them to lake part in a course, a three-month introduction to the Christian faith. During that time, John says, "We told them it is good that you want to The scripture reading was taken from John 15 and Matthew 22. Mrs. Huether led in prayer and Mrs. Ireland gave the topic, A Love Story. Mrs. Huether read some poems from the book, Apples of Gold. President, Leona Armstrong presided over the business. She thanked the hostesses, then read Some Love Tips. The minutes of the January meeting were read and adopted. A thank you note from Helen Elliott was read and Mrs. Ireland gave the treasurer's report. The World Day of Prayer was discussed and Mary Carr become a Christian, but we would like to tell you that there is a price to be paid. Why don't you reconsider what you want to do, because many things can happen to you. You can lose, and you can lose big." If a person persisted in their desire to become a Christian, John told them that on the night of their baptism, they would be sharing the story about their relationship with Jesus. He warned them that when they speak publicly, "...there will be informers here who will jot down your name and tomorrow the problems will start. Count the cost. Christianity is not easy. It's not cheap. You can be demoted. You can volmiteered to take part in the service. The springtime supper will be held on April 21. It was decided to have the same menu as last year. The Guild has been asked to quilt a quilt for the Time, Talent and Treasure Auction to be held on March 22. The Guild would buy the material. Kathleen Semple will provide lunch. Jean Bewley and Dona Knight offered to look after the March meeting. The roll call was answered by everyone giving their definition on what love is. lose your job. You can lose your friends., You can lose your neighbours. You can lose your kids - who are climbing the social ladder. You can even lose your life." Jesus gives an honest invitation for people to become his disciples. In Mark 8, he says: "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. John Oros speaks about the joy of seeing people who would say, "If I lose everything, but myic. I ;itumship with my Lord, Jesus Christ, it is still worth it." The season of Lent is a time for letting God sift through our priorities, to ask, "Where is my true allegiance'? Who is really master of. my life? How will I answer the invitation of Jesus?" When Jesus says, "Follow me!" he invites us on an adventure that may seem costly and crazy - &mil one perspective. Still, he promises that it will be most worthwhile - that this is the way to true joy and abundant life. M.
