Well what will we watch on television now? It's been pretty neat being entertained this past two weeks by the Olympians. Each of us has a favourite moment that we'll savour for a long, long time — well, at least four years. At this end of the country Sunday at suppertime we had horns blowing and Canadian flags flying as we cheered the golden moment with our heroes — the Canadian hockey team. The 401 was a sea of red and white as car owners were caught in the moment and proudly unfurled their Canadian flags as they drove about their lives honouring the Canadian gold. My brother, Jim and family were in the area at a public school curling tournament in Chesley and- report that on the trip back to Hallville after four days of curling, the flags were a terrific way to end a weekend of well organized sports for them. Schools from this area that were part of the 84-team roster were Listowel, Wingham, Seaforth and Clinton. By Jo-Ann McDonald • Well, another month has flown by at the Brussels Legion and the February volunteers did a great job. Comrade Keith Mulvey is organizing the new group of volunteers and I'm sure he will have no trouble getting help from Gord Finch, Pete Exel, Dianne Machan, Max Demaray, John Lowe, Doug Sholdice, Allyson Cardiff, Lyle Brothers, Calvin Semple and Cathy Burkholder. The Friday night supper of roast beef was just delicious. This week is ham and scalloped potatoes. The Ladies Auxiliary served dinner to the dairy producers last Friday afternoon. Thanks to their helpers and Comrades Helen and Mabel for their outstanding job well done. • The ladies still have meat pies available. Talk to them or drop into the Branch after 4 p.m. Comrades Rick McDonald and Julie Harrison attended the financial seminar held in Hanover on Saturday. Last week's lucky membership winner was Adam Smith. Comrade Jean Little is home from Seaforth hospital and is now at Huronlea. We hope she enjoys her new home. As you're reading this paper today, Wednesday, make plans to come to the Legion tonight, to hear the area public speaking competition. Children from Brussels and Grey Public School, who have earned the opportunity to advance are speaking at 7:30 p.m. Please be in your seats by 7:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and listen to our talented children of the area. The winners from tonight's competition will advance to the Zone Competition on Sunday at Wingham. It's only a couple of months until it will be elections at the Branch again. As is the usual plea, we need more people to become involved in the That's a lot of pre-teens in one spot. You'll want to go to the Legion on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. That's when the semi-finalists from the schools present their hard work and effort in the speeches. World Day of Prayer is at the United Church at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A time to share, that started in 1922 and continues to be observed in 170 countries worldwide. Rather humbling isn't it. Hockey is still in full swing but the weather of the past few days is encouraging the bikers and skateboarders to. get active as well. It sure doesn't feel like February. Farewell Kang. Best of luck in your new venture in Waterloo and thanks for 24 years of service to our village. We've got your number when we need more pills. We're still in flu and cold season so wash your hands, wash your hands, WASH YOUR HANDS. It's still the simplest, cheapest and most effective way to keep germs where they should be — down the drain. Stay healthy.. Hooray for the Brussels PeeWee Rep hockey team for capturing the WOAA title. This is the first time in a long timt_ , perhaps even forever, that we've seen an all-Ontario match-up. So come out and root for the home squad on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the arena, and acknowledge their success. Bye now, Betty G. W. running of the Branch. There is a core group of about 10. If more people would step forward and stand on a committee, it would make things so much easier. The next general meeting is Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. and we need to see a lot more members out to these meetings. FARM SAFETY FACT Did you know?
