It was an impressive first indoor
meet for a local Blyth field athlete.
Jenna Taylor, 15, of Blyth,
competed recently at the Legion-
provincial indoor track and field
meet at York University in Toronto,
and came away with a bronze medal.
To qualify for the Meet, Taylor, a
Grade 10 student at Central Huron
Secondary School, who competes in
shot put, had to throw over seven
metres.
Sponsored by the Legion, this was
Taylor's first time in competition at
an indoor meet. She competed last
year at the outdoor provincials.
In her category of 17 and under,
Taylor's throw of nine metres, 16 cm
(just over 30 feet) not only put her in
third place from eight competitors,
but surprised many there. "She was
the only non-track and field club
winner," says her mother, Crystal.
"They were stunned to see a non-
member come up and do so well.
The first place winner was from
London, while silver went to a
Windsor competitor.
Jenna, who says the experience
was "fun, pretty cool", is hoping to
compete as a member of her school's
team this year. Last year there were
no extracurricular activities so she
was unable to take part.
Also, she is planning on spending a
little more time training. Her mom
says that a coach in Port Elgin has
invited her to come train at the club
there. "He feels she has all the
earmarks of being a provincial
champion."
On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Brussels
Novice Bulls hosted the team from
El ma Logan.
The teams were very closely
matched, trading numerous scoring
chances. Brussels went ahead by two
in the first period on goals by Ty
Sebastian and Zach Watson.
In the secone period it was Elma
Logan's turn to get on the board as
they evened the score with two goals
of their own.
The third period saw a
continuation of exciting hockey with
many scoring chances for both
teams. Elma Logan finally edged
ahead with two. more goals and the
game ended 4-2 for Elma Logan.
The Elyth Midget Bulldogs
captured the WOAA Midget E
championship with weekend wins to
sweep Lion's Head in three games.
On Saturday, Feb. 16, the
Bulldogs hosted Lion's Head. The
Dogs built a 5-0 first period lead and
went on to an 8-2 win. Rob
Archambault led the way for Blyth

Henry and Matt Bromley.

Brussels Local League PeeWees
continued their winning ways as
they entered the playoffs.
Saturday, Feb.16 saw Brussels
entertaining the Goderich team in
their first game of the playoffs. As
they have so often this year they
made the BMG ice surface a tough
place to play for the out-of-towners
taking a 5-3 decision.
Adam McClure started the scoring
for Brussels with less than a minute
to go in the first period. He received
assistance from both Shayne
Cochrane and Chase Chapman.
The second period saw McClure

The Wingham McFadden's

Elma Logan in the opener of its
round robin portion of the group
playoffs.
Things started out well for
Wingham as Kevin Hopf scored to
take the lead early in the second
period. Rod MacEwan and Jake
Bruce assisted.
With the score tied at one Bruce
gave Wingham the lead with help
from Hopf to take a 2-2 tie into the
second intermission.
The PeeWee Bulldogs travelled to
Mildmay for their second game of
the best of three series on Monday,
Feb. 11 down one game to none.
Mildmay came out flying in this
one backing up a 2-0 lead before the
end of the first period. Early in the
second period the Bulldogs would
strike back. Josh Albrechtas took a
pass from Devin Jenkins and fired a
Brussels wingers Andrew Watson,
Trista Deitner, Randy Zwep,
Christine Bone and Blake Cardiff
showed good speed and puck
control, helping to create many
offensive opportunities.
Sunday saw Brussels travelling to
Elma Logan for a rematch.
This time Elma Logan struck first
but Brussels quickly came back to
tie the game, then went ahead by a
goal late in the second period and
two more in the third. Elma Logan
scored once more, resulting in a final
score; this time 4-2 for Brussels.
Judging by the decibel level in the
arena this has to be the most exciting
game of the year for both players

Sunday for game three. After giving
up the first goal, the Dogs stormed
back with eight unanswered goals to

defensive hockey. Hopf and Bruce

goals in the period including three in
68 seconds to seal a 7-4 decision.
Wingham is in a pool with
