FROM AUBURN
Knox holds
annual meeting
The opening hymn at Knox United
was Trust and Obey.
The children were invited to the
front and Rev. Paul Ross asked them
what temptation was. One little girl
gave a very appropriate answer:
"Doing something that you know you
should not."
Rev. Ross went on to speak to them
about how easy it is to see something
and just pick it up or to say 'no' when
you know you should say 'yes'.
These are things that must not be
done or said or your conscience will
bother you. Rev. Ross closed with
prayer and the children went to their
classes.
Scripture was from Genesis where
God told Eve that there was one tree
in the garden of which the fruit
should not be eaten. But Eve was
tempted and ate of the fruit and gave
one to Adam.
Then scripture was from Matthew
regarding the good tree that brings
good fruit and a bad tree that yields
bad fruit. People, like trees, must
follow the will of God.
Rev. Ross's sermon was on this
topic, people must not yield to
temptation but follow in the word of
God. Do things as the Lord would
have them done.
As usual a lovely lunch was
enjoyed at the annual meeting. The
group responsible for serving it are to
be thanked for their work. Grace was
sung before the meal.
Alice McDowell was appointed as
secretary. Two gentlemen from
Londesboro were welcomed. They
assured us that their charge still
welcomes us as a one-third time part
of their congregation. We were also
informed that minister's wages have
increased so our share will also
increase.
Members were appointed for
committees. Shelley Worsell, Alice
McDowell, Gregory Park, Doug
McClinchey and Daryl Ball were
one. It was also recommended that a
couple of teens should be in
representation. Members of the
session and stewards were thanked
for their work.
Money from UCW is to be given to
Camp Menesetung.
It was decided that perhaps instead
of church supper members work with
the Auburn Lions for a smorgasbord
meal. Gregory Park will look into this
matter.
It was decided next year's annual
meeting will be Feb. 16.
During the annual meeting Happy
Birthday was sung for several
members who were adding another
year — we wished them many more.
The UCW was quilting and tying at
the church Monday, Feb. 18. After
completion of the annual, several
members got busy removing dinner
tables and putting up quilting frames
for the next day's work.
Great storytellers
