Entertainment &Leisure Festival Singers perform sacred music in. Clinton The Blyth, Festival Singers will present a Sunday afternoon choral concert, Music For A Sacred Season on Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m. at Wesley Willis United Church in Clinton. The concert will feature some of the best-loved sacred choral music, including works by Mozart, Healey Willian, along with some of the greatest spirituals — like Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. The Blyth Festival Singers is a 40- voice community choir with mem- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn flow into The Centre In The Square, Kitchener for one perform- ance only on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. Big River brings together Mark Twain's classic, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, universally hailed as the first and greatest American novel, with the music of one of North America's most original song- writers, Roger Miller. The result is Americana at its finest, presented in the most loved form of entertain- Significant works of art in their own right, the best theatre posters distill the multitude of ideas in a play into a single compelling image. Worth a Thousand Words is a juried exhibition organized by Gallery Stratford, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the interna- tionally renowned Stratford Festival. It will present a survey of the best theatre posters produced around the world in the last five bers from throughout Huron County, led by Richard Hansen of St. Marys. Sharon Johnston of Goderich is the accompanist. Hansen is an accomplished choral conductor and organist. He also con- ducts the Georgian Bay Concert Choir, Georgian Bay Children's Choir in Owen Sound and the Stonetown Choral Society in St. Marys. He is also director of music at St. Marys United Church. Johnston is a well-known pianist and harpist. She also accompanies the McKay Choristers and the ment: the Broadway musical. • Twain's timeless classic sweeps us down the mighty Mississippi as the irrepressible Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a black slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River. Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful and heart- warming. Big River brings to life the colour- ful and memorable characters creat- ed by Twain — the Widow Douglas and her stern sister, Miss Watson; the years (1997 to 2001). The Gallery invites submissions until April 15 from professional artists, illustrators, photographers, designers, or the theatres that com- missioned them. Posters from anywhere in the world are welcomed. They must rep- resent theatrical or spoken-word productions, a season of theatre per- formances or a theatre festival. Posters for musicals may be entered, Goderich Area Youth Chorus. The concert will also feature guest organist Angus Sinclair of London. A former conductor with the Blyth Festival Singers, Sinclair is an accomplished organist whose work includes accompanying the nation- al-acclaimed Three Cantors, the trio of singing Anglican priests. Sinclair brings impressive credentials, cre- ativity, focus and energy to every performance and is thrilling to watch and listen to at the organ con- sole. Tickets for the Blyth Festival uproarious King and Duke, who may or may not be as harmless as they seem; Huck's partner in crime, Tom Sawyer, and their rowdy gang of pals; Huck's drunken father, the sinister Pap Finn, and the lovely Mary Jane Wilkes and her trusting family. Big River was the big winner of seven 1985 Tony Awards, including Best Musical of the Year! It was a clean sweep for the hit that had all Broadway singing again (Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book, but posters specifically for opera, dance, or music are not eligible, nor is student work. Submissions should focus on the innovative and creative solutions developed by illustrators and graph- ic designers when faced with the challenge of representing a play with a single image.
