Prelude welcomes all to Knox United A prelude welcomed all to Knox United Church on Sunday, Jan. 27 with Bernice Gross as organist. Rev. Paul Ross then welcomed everyone to God's house and the opening cho- rus was sung. The congregation was invited to worship followed by prayer. The first hymn, We Praise You, 0 God was sung. Confession was given with the Assurance of God's Pardon following. The children came to the front as their chorus Go Tell It On the Mountain was sung. Rev. Ross showed the children a package a't,',‘ • which rattled and they tried to guess what was in it but did not make the right choice. The plastic bag was filled with assorted marbles. The children mainly liked the dif- ferent colours. • Rev. Ross explained to them that like marbles people are all different, not only race, skin and hair, but per- sonalities. The children went downstairs. Jesus Calls Us was sung. Rev. Ross read the scripture from I Corinthians on having no divisions. God sent Christ to preach the gospel, not to baptize but to teach a united faith. He continued with Matthew 4: 12- 23. Here Jesus called two brothers, Peter and Andrew who were fisher- men to follow Him and they did. Shortly after He saw another couple of brothers, James and John, also I was so pleased to be at church Sunday morning as with the snow, etc. it was difficult walking out the lane formerly and I would not ask any of my good friends or neigh- bours to drive it. The special thing besides the typ- ically excellent service was that it was communion. One thing about Rev. Paul Ross's service was his invitation to a person of any denom- ination to partake of the commun- ion. There is only one God who will welcome any Christian whom fol- lows Him. fishermen. They left their dad and followed Him. They, of course, are the first disciples. Rev. Ross continued with the•ser- mon on Uniting the Church. He spoke of the union of -the United Church back in 1925. Some smaller religions have joined or considered joining since. Then again other peo- ple have left. The fact remains that all have the same God to follow regardless of in what church. They are united in His name. Rev. Ross closed with prayer. Sacrament was served by • Joyce Bean, the Sturzenegger, Brett Bean and Nancy Park. Meeting members at the church door Sunday were Joyce Bean and son Brett with her older son Mike and daughter Danielle upstairs giV- ing out bulletins. On Feb. 6 the Walkerburn Club going to Goderich for the meeting and trust everyone will be able to attend. The WI met on Jan. 24, a week later than usual. The secretary Tina Empey was holidaying so Laura Mae Chamney took care of the min- utes. The meeting began with the usual WI prayers and song. Mrs. Chamney then read the min- utes of the last meeting. Roll call was answered with 15 present. Members welcomed a new resident of Auburn, Margaret Fraser. It was decided that the next meet- ing will be open to everyone. It will be a dessert and card party. It is hoped it will be as successful as last year's. The tentative date will be Feb. 21. A number offered to bring a vari- ety of cakes for the occasion and another group will supply ice- cream. FROM AUBURN Guest speaker was Jane Hoggart and her dog Rambo. They are mem- bers of the St. John Ambulance Society — Mrs.. Hoggart as a master of a trained Society dog and Rambo as the dog. There is a triangular St. John scarf that can be worn by each of them. They belong to their Canine Society. They were trained in behav- iour. ' Mrs. Hoggart gave a demonstra- tion of the dog's obedience. She'd give the command and he would fol- low orders. He is taken to nursing homes. I can just imagine the pleasure most patients would have when this pair goes a-calling. He certainly was friendly to the WI gang. To close, grace was sung and members went to a sumptuous treat of a variety of cakes and ice cream with beverages, then enjoyed a social half hour. A good start From left: Katie and Karen McClinchey and Ha Cunningham enjoyed the delicious pancake breakfast cooked by the Blyth Midgets on Sunday morning at Memorial Hall. The event was a team fundraiser.
