THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2002. PAGE 19.
L. McDonald greets at Duff's United service
FROM WALTON
Hall board
seeks
volunteers
The Walton Hall board is looking
for a couple of new board mem-
bers. Our new term begins March 1
and if you're interested in serving
on the board, Judy Lee would
appreciate hearing from you.
We are volunteers who are trying
to keep our community hall open
and available for use. We only have
a few meetings a year and our
ongoing fundraiser is euchre every
second Thursday from October to
May.
They hold about four Sunday
dinners in a year and rentals gener-
ate the necessary income needed to
sustain the hall.
Donations from the Women's
Institute and others are always
appreciated.
If you are interested in helping,
please call Judy.
Hamlet
plans for
baseball
Although it is only February,
baseball is just around the corner.
Also looking for new committee
members is the Walton Area Sports
Club. This group oversees the run-
ning of minor ball in Walton and
maintains the Walton Ball Park.
There are only a few meetings a
year to attend. The bulk of activity.
is in May, just before the season
begins.
Think about it and you can be
involved in your child's summer
sport. Every child should learn to
play baseball as it is a sport that can
carry through to adulthood.
Euchre
winners
Thursday night was euchre at
Walton Hall. There were only
seven tables at play so chances
were good to win. Lucky, couple
was Bob and Lauren Regele with
70 points for first place. Coming in
second was Jeanne Ireland and
partner Eluned McNair with 69
points. Tied for third place with 66
points were pairs Marie Stewart
and Eileen Sellers and Vera Ahrens
and partner Marjorie Smith. The
lucky lone hand winners were
Gloria Love and Ed Stewart.
Euchre is every two weeks.
Sunday morning worship at Duff's
United Church, which begins at 9:30
a.m., saw Leona McDonald greeting
members as they arrived. The annu-
al report books were distributed to
those attending and friends delivered
some to their neighbours. If you
don't have yours, they are available
at the church upstairs in the sanctu-
ary.
The annual meeting is this
Sunday, Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. It will be a

g,
It was a good week and good
weather for the birthday celebrations
that I know of. Joining Marie Coutts
at the Walton Inn for her birthday
lunch was husband Bill, Mary
Humphries, Kathleen Williamson
and Helen Williamson, who was
also celebrating her birthday this
week.
Kathleen and Helen were also out
to Huronlea to visit our Walton peo-
ple. They enjoyed a visit with
Malinda Johnston, Margaret Craig
and Irma Williamson.
I understand that Huronlea has
been closed to visitors this week due
to flu.
Other Walton friends who gath-
ered to celebrate Marie Coutts's
birthday on Wednesday *ere Anne
Ryan, Marilyn McDonald, Viola
Kirkby and Mary Humphries. They
enjoyed a nice drive around the
countryside and stopped for lunch
while out.
In hospital from the village is
Laurie Finch. She is in Clinton and
would welcome visitors.
Bill Shortreed has' gotten home
from hospital and he too would wel-
come visitors.
January seems to be a busy month
for birthdays. Celebrating this past
week were Marie Coutts, Kendal
Carnachan, Helen Duncan, Helen
Williamson, Brandon McGavin,
Brenda McIntosh, Roy Gingerich
and Jason McCall. Happy birthday
to all.
Thieves
steal VCR,
DVD player
from store
On Jan. 19 shortly after 9 a.m.
Huron OPP officers were called to
Oldfield's Pro Hardware store locat-
ed on Turnberry Street in Brussels
over a theft. An employee told police
that sometime over the last two days
two electronic items were stolen
from the rear of the store, a JVC
DVD player and a Daewoo VCR
valued at approximately $500.
The culprits are believed to have
walked out the rear door of the busi-
ness with the items.
Anyone who can help solve this
crime is asked to call the Huron OPP
or Crime Stoppers.
