Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of
the Blyth and area and Brussels and area communities to receive an
award for contribution to the community. If you know„someone you
think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot and send it in. You

Giving it just a little push, the Blyth PeeWee broomballer's

Blyth PeeWee Dogs take playoff series lead
The Blyth PeeWee Bulldogs trav-
elled to Bayfield for their opening
round of.playoffs in a best two out of
three series.
This was a hard-hitting affair.
Bayfield struck first on the score-
board finding the net in the second,
then added another seconds later to
take a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs were relentless in
their attack ho,wever and with min-
utes left in the second period nar-
rowed the margin to one. Krystopher
Campbell picked up a John Bokhout
rebound and snapped by the
Bayfield netminder. The Bulldogs
tied it before period end when Josh
Albrechtas took a Kyle Nixon pass

Brussels PeeWees play in Silver Stick semi-finals
The Brussels PeeWees had a great
weekend at Silver Stick in Forest.
In the first game they played West
Lincoln and won 5-2. Great passing
and goaltending helped a lot.
Game two was against Pittsburgh.
Brussels won this game 10-1.
Everyone played well and it showed
in the final score.
Game three was against Dresden.
The squad won 4-3. The boys kept
up the hard pace of this game
throughout.
On Saturday, Jan., 26 the Brussels
Novice Bulls hosted the Wallace
Novices.
The two teams were evenly
matched, providing an exciting game
for spectators. The final score was 7-
4 in favour of Wallace.
Scoring for Brussels were Gavin
Bowers with two, Eric Dwyer, and
Nic Gowing, who demonstrated a
unique scoring approach in getting

Maytag Juveniles defeated Lucknow
3-2 in game one of their WOAA
semi-final series this past Sunday.
Lucknow took a 1-0 lead four min-
utes into the opening frame. This
lead held until the six-minute mark
of the second period when Rod
MacEwen let a slapshot go from the
point that beat the Lucknow goalie.
Craig Marks picked up the assist.
Wingham took the lead early in the
third as Chad Cook scored a power-
play marker. Marks and Kevin Hopf
Blyth Novice Houseleague team
was visited by Listowel on Sunday,
Jan. 27.
Listowel took an early lead with a
goal in the first period but that didn't
last long as Dana Teed and Caleb

play Campbellford in the semi-
finals. Campbellford scored first but
Brussels answered'back just 50 sec-
onds later on a goal by Christopher
Jutzi assisted by Matt McClinchey.
In the second Campbellford once
again scored first but Brussels
fought back and Matt White, assist-
ed by Chris Corbett scored to tie the
game once more.
In the third Campbellford scored
himself, the Wallace goalie and the
puck all in the net simultaneously.
On Sunday, the Novice Bulls trav-
elled to Mitchell and played another
entertaining game, keeping the hock-
ey moms on the edge of their seats
once again. Randy Zwep scored for
Brussels 28 seconds into the game,
with assists going to Trista Deitner
and Bowers,
After almost two periods of end-
to-end action, Ty Sebastian scored a

game was going to go into overtime.
Then, with just 29 seconds remain-
ing'in regulation time, Curtis Knight

Garrett Skinn assisted.

goals and three- assists; Bowers, two
goals and Jutzi, Adam Corbett, Cory
Chapman, one goal and two assists;
Steven Ropp, one goal, three assists.

The Brussels team was led by the
excellent play of defenders Morgan
Delmer, Cole McLean, Dwyer and
Gowing. Goaltending duties were
shared by Ryan Baker and Herb
Runstedler.
The Brussels Novices continue to
show improvement along with good
sportsmanship and enthusiasm as the
season progresses, coaches said.
Other assists went to White and
Jordan Campbell with three each;
Mitch Blake and Adam McClure,
two; Brad McKague and Andrew
McDonald, one.
Goaltender Kyle Gibson played
well and made many timely saves to
get Brussels into the semi-finals.
The boys acknowledge the
Optimists for the donation towards
the Silver Stick tournament
fee.
