At the end of regular play The Brussels Midgets Bulletts travelled to Goderich Thursday, Jan. 17 for a game against their intermediates. Brussels opened the scoring with seconds left in the first period. Michelle Cook won the draw back to Brittany Campbell who fired in a slap- shot. The two teams battled through a scoreless second. The Bulletts, however sent out an all attack in the third. Cook scored the second goal from Rachel Elliott, then scored again from Ashley Ritchie to make it 3-0. Kristen Palmer added another Brussels goal from Ritchie. Cook completed her hattrick on a solo effort. The final goal was scored by Ritchie from Cook with sec- onds left and the Bulletts skat- ed away with a convincing 6- 0 victory. The Bulletts spent this past weekend participating in the Cambridge Roadrunners Girls Hockey Tournament. They played their opening game Friday night against Cambridge. These teams bat- tled through a scoreless first period. In the second The Blyth Novice Rep team saw action both at home and away this past weekend. The first game in Clinton ended in a 5-1 loss for Blyth. Dallas Pennington scored the lone goal for Blyth. The boys seemed a little dog tired but soon woke up on Sunday for game number two. Lucknow travelled to Blyth to give the Bulldogs lots of pres- sure. Although Lucknow opened the scoring, Blyth's Matt Chalmers answered the call, PeeWee The Brussels PeeWee Local League pulled out another big win at home on Jan. 19, downing Clinton 6-1. A tight first period kept things scoreless until in the dying minutes, Clinton found the net to take a one-point lead into the second. Brussels came out on fire after the break, holding the visitors down, while scoring three. Scott Phillips, James Cochrane and Adam McClure each bulged the twine. Assists went to Steven Ropp, Andrew McDonald, Jordan Campbell and Shane Cochrane with Cambridge found the back of the net on a power play. The Bulletts came back on another power play when Cook found the net on a pass from Ritchie and Sarah McDonald. Palmer put Brussels up by one scoring on the tail end of the powerplay assisted by Alicia Dick. Cambridge pulled the goalie in the final period in a last ditch effort to tie the game but was not successful as the Bulletts skated away with a 2- 1 win. Cook was chosen as the team MVP. The Bulletts faced Cambridge once again on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Again Cambridge would take the lead on the powerplay late in the second period. Brussels came back to tie the game on a powerplay with minutes to go in the game. Elliott knocked in the rebound assisted by Campbell and Cook. Many chances were had by both teams but it would end in a 1-1 draw. Kerri Meier was selected the Bullet MVP. The squad played their next game at 8 p.m. against assisted by Tyler Stevenson and Kirby Cook, to tie the game finally late in the third. Goal number two was deliv- ered by Lucknow and the Dogs had to scramble to pop in a tieing goal. Dallas Pennington, assisted by Lucas Cooke and Adam Cronin, scraped the goal past the pipes. Cooke popped in the game winner with 43 seconds left and the Dogs were victori- ous. The defence of Collin Whitfield, Trevor Raynard two. The third period was a repeat of the second with the visitors shutout and the hosts scoring three. Ropp with two On Friday night the Brussels PeeWee Reps played Blyth and won 15-1. Scoring for Brussels were Matt McClinchey with three goals and four assists; Steven Ropp with three goals and one assist; Adam McClure with three goals and two assists; Chris Corbett with two goals Hamilton Hawks. The first goal was an unas- sisted effort by Campbell. In the second period they increased that lead to two when Jenn Hopf scored assist- ed by Cook and Ritchie. Hamilton got one late in the second but in the dying min- utes Brussels scored to restore the two-goal lead. Elliott got the marker with assists to Campbell and Cook. The Bulletts won the game 3-1. Campbell was chosen Brussels MVP. The Bulletts played Hamilton a second time Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. Dick scored assisted by Rebecca Bruton in the open- ing frame. The Bulletts added to that in the third period on a goal by Campbell assisted by Dick and Meier. The Bulletts closed out the scoring with minutes remaining when Palmer found the net assisted by Meier. Gaining a much-deserved shutout and MVP of the game for Brussels was goalie Nicki Berfelz, This put the Bulletts into the championship game and Tyler Middegaal were a tired trio as they were a little short staffed, but certainly held their own clearing the puck. Goalies Sheldon Reid and Grant Sparling shared net- minding duties this weekend. As always the boys depend on these two to keep them in the game and they never let their teammates down. With only a few more league games to go the Bulldogs are looking forward to the start of playoffs. and McDonald got the points in this round with helpers from Phillips, Brad McKague, McClure, Chase Chapman and J. Seven seconds into the opening period Cook won the faceoff and headed into the Cambridge end, using a little give-and-go with Ritchie, then one timing by the Cambridge goaltender Brussels increased their lead to 2-0 in the second period when Hopf lopped a goal into the Cambridge net. Cambridge pulled the goalie and scored with only 42 seconds left to pull to with- in one.
