After years of experimenting with
various aspects of photography and
advertising, Jill Cooper decided last
summer to leave her hometown of
Blyth to join the military and see for
herself what they had to offer in the
field of imagery.
Having survived the proverbial
boot camp in Saint-Jean, Quebec,
Private Cooper travelled to 16 Wing
in Borden, Ontario, to attend the
apprentice-level imagery technician
course at the Canadian Forces
School of Aerospace Technology and
Engineering.
"I was quite impressed with the
quality of the equipment and the
level of knowledge of the instruc-
tors," she said. "I had taken a course
in journalism in college, and I can
tell you that in comparison, the facil-
ities and equipment that we had
access to were better in Borden. I
enjoyed the course very much."
In fact, Private Cooper enjoyed the
training so much that she ended-up
being presented with the Top Student
Award as the candidate who
achieved the highest academic marks
over the period of the course. "I feel
proud and honoured to have finished
ishing, and digital imaging technolo-

"I had a camera in my hands pret-
ty much throughout the whole
course, during working hours and
off-duty, even on weekends. I par-
ticularly enjoyed practising portrai-
ture and composition."
Upon her graduation, Private
Cooper was posted to 14 Wing
Greenwood, in Nova Scotia, where
she now contributes to the imaging
support of Maritime patrol opera-
tions.
