First Blyth Group Committee met Dec. 3 at the Blyth Public School. All sections have registered more new members since September. Four new leaders have been interviewed for the current year, and the program for the youth is going well. For Halloween the Beavers carved pumpkins and donated them to local businesses to decorate their stores. They also made snowflakes, which were used to decorate the Scouting float in the Christmas parade. On a couple of nights, when weather permitted, Beavers went for a hike around the town. On the last meeting before the Christmas break they are going to have a movie night and pizza party. Cubs have not finished the requirements for the Red Star. Fitness and health were emphasized for this badge. Topics covered bicy- cle safety, drug awareness, good eat- ing and hygiene. For one meeting night the boys constructed an obsta- cle course, using their skill and inge- nuity. On Nov. 6 Mike Scott made a presentation to the boys about drug awareness. . They worked on a Christmas craft for part of one meeting. For the other half Jerrymae Marten assisted them in the kitchen making Christmas cookies. For fun and fitness they went swimming at Vanastra Dec. 4 and Dec. 11. They look forward to one of the fun events_ of the Christmas sea- son, an alphabet tour of the main street in Blyth. In order to help the Cubs under- stand what they are required to do for different badges, and to show them the natural progression of these badges into the Troop program, a chart has been provided for the third- year youth. With this their interest has been regenerated in what they are able to accomplish. Ndvember was a busy month for the Scout Troop. Over the Remembrance Day weekend they participated in a fall camp, biking to Blyth for the Remembrance Day service. The Scouts who enjoyed the Canadian Jamboree in July made a presentation to the Blyth Legion on Nov. 6 in appreciation of the support that they received. They have also been working on their CJ knives. Venturers who attended CJ '01 in Prince Edward Island this past sum- mer made a presentation to the Blyth Lions Club Nov. 8 in appreciation of the support that they received in order to get there. This year the Venturer Company has undertaken a major project. With blueprints and materials supplied by the owner, they are constructing a single seat airplane. Along with the actual work involved they are learn- ing about the concept and mechanics of flight, aerodynamics, navigation, etc.• The youth and their advisors are very excited about this project, and hope to .see the product of their labours test-flown in the spring. • With Christmas approaching and no sign of snow, 1st Blyth Scouting is still enjoying the season. On Dec. 7 all sections were well represented on the Scouting float in the Blyth Christmas parade. Many thanks are extended to Grant Sparling for the use of the trailer, to Jerry Stevens of Great Western Resources for the use of the truck which pulled it. to Allan Peel for the use of the straw bales and to Gerald Hakkers who drove the truck. Again this year the youth collected donations of food along the route. Because of the generosity of many. there will be a brighter Christmas for many families in Huron County. Ho, Ho, Hol Santa Claus (Jennifer Popp) gave a resounding chuckle as Blyth Public School students presented Santa and Me in their Storybook Christmas concert last week at Blyth Memorial Hall.
