THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19. 2001. Morris man off the road for 3 years A-Morris Twp. man will be spending the next eight months behind bars after pleading guilty in provincial court, Wingham, last Thursday to driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood and driving while disqualified. According to Crown Attorney Rod Guthrie, Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a patrol in Huron Fast Brussels Ward, on Oct. 31 at 11:48 p.m. when they noticed a gentle- man driving a car in "an unusual man- ner". The driver, Warren Hayes, 53, showed symptoms of alcohol con- sumption, according to Guthrie. The lower of two breathalizer readings was 190 mg. It was also discovered that Hayes was legally disqualifed from driving as the result of an over-80 charge in 1998. Stating that Hayes' record was admit- ted Duty Counsel John Myers said the accused has been on a disability pen- sion for three years and realizes he does have problems with alcohol. In anticipation of losing his driving privileges for life, Myers said Hayes has gotten rid of his car and put his belongings into storage. Myers added that Hayes said he actually wanted to lose his licence for the rest of his life. Judge Garfy. Hunter noted somewhat wryly, however, that it "doesn't seem to make much difference (if he loses his licence), he still drives." Myers suggested a sentence of six months in custody. Guthrie however, 3 sustain minor injuries in crash On Dec. 12 shortly after 5:30 p.m. a three-vehicle crash occurred on Amberley Road in West Wawanosh. A 1997 New Holland tractor was eastbound on the shoulder of the road, driven by Lloyd Graham, 57, of Kinloss Twp. A second vehicle, a 1999 Ford pickup truck driven by Betty Pennington, 60, of South Bruce was also eastbound. The tractor pulled out onto the roadway to cross when it was struck by the pickup. A third vehicle, a 1989 Ford Mustang driven by Claudia Normington, 55, of Lucknow was westbound. The car struck the tractor from the opposite direction. All three drivers were taken to Wingham and District Hospital by ambulance where two were treated for minor injuries and released. The third person also received minor injuries and was released later on. The collision is still under investi- gation. He also suspended the man's licence for a period of three years. Over 80 Angela Huffman, 25, of Wingham pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. She was fined $750 and had her driver's licence suspended for one year. On Nov. 11 in North Huron a citizen reported someone driving erratically. Police found. Huffman behind the wheel of a vehicle which had a flat tire. Breathalyzer readings were 150 mg. Assault A pre-sentence report on a Kitchener man who pled guity to assault is being prepared for the Feb. 21 court. At 9 p.m. July 29, OPP officers were called to a residence in Fordwich, said Guthrie. Steven Ward, 35, and his companion had been entertaining friends .at a bar- becue. Guthrie said that Ward, who had been drinking throughout the day, sent his own child and the complainant, a 15-year-old youth, to the store. According to Guthrie, Ward became upset because the two were gone too long so went to find them and bring them back. An argument occured regarding the 15-year-old's "attitude". There was some pushing inside and outside the home, with them ending up in the youth's bedroom, where Ward punched him in the lip. The fight was broken up. But, Guthrie said, "the accused went on breaking things" in the house. _ Myers said the facts were admitted . Also, though Ward has a prior convic- tion for assault going back to 1991, counsel requested the pre-sentence report.
