Rev. Ross talks about gifts
Cheerios meet
Christmas dinner was enjoyed by
the ladies of the Cheerio Club on
Wednesday, Dec. 12 at G.T.'s Corner
Cafe in Londesboro. Then Margaret
Good welcomed everyone to her
home for the afternoon. Each of the
ladies brought along an item for the
Huron County Christmas Food
Bank.
All of us would, I'm sure, have
enjoyed listening to the responses to
roll call. The members responded
with Christmas readings, prayers and
stories. No doubt the sentiments
expressed would have been familiar
and interesting.
Margaret served drinks and treats
following some time spent playing
cards. FROM LONDESBORO
Lighting the candle of joy on the
third Sunday of, advent at
Londesboro United Church were
Rev. Paul Ross and Molly
Horbanuik. The theme for the serv-
ice was Neverending Joy. The
anthem The Child of Hope was
offered by the senior choir.
A beautifully-wrapped present
was found in Rev. Ross's storybag. It
was generally agreed that getting a
gift brings happiness, pleasure and
joy. The gift God gives, the birth of
Christ, brings joy at ChristmaS time.
Isaiah, 35: 1-10, envisions a time
when his people will leave exile and
return to Jerusalem. He is certain the
return will be a joyous occasion.
Their new life will be perfect pro-
vided they remain on God's holy
way.
Luke 1: 47-55, verses of The
Magnificent, speak of Mary's soul
magnifying the Lord. In Mary's per-
fect world all people would be equal
Recently I heard a television
report that noted that a large per-
centage of Christmas shoppers buy
something for themselves. Well,
now I am part of that statistic. I

This last week of classes before the
Christmas break always finds the
children keyed up, excited and impa-
tient for the arrival of the man in the
red suit. However, the virtue for this
week will be putting everyone to the
test., patience.
Mary. Sarton is credited with the
accompanying quote: "Patience and
perseverance have a magical effect
before which difficulties disappear
and obstacles vanish."
As all of us scurry about trying to
get all those things done before Dec.
25 that quote may help.

and treated justly. She believed this
would be a world full of joy for all.
Isaiah and Mary are only two of
many who dream/dreamt of
Shangri—la place or condition of no
pain, danger or sadness, only peace
and joy. Parents, too, want to do all
they can to protect their children
from sorrow and struggle, to give
them a perfect world or life.
However, the congregation was
asked, "Is this really the world you
desire?" Without struggle or hard
work there would be no joy in suc-
cess. Overcoming the presence of
danger brings joy. One learns from
pain or sorrow and it is the pain that
allows one to learn joy.
Christ promises that those who
walk in His way will not be defeated
by the' pain of the world. They can
claim the neverending joy of the
Child of Christmas offers. Celebrate
the birth of Christ by attending the
Christmas Eve service at 7:30 p.m.
found a new little book of quotes,
etc. last Friday while browsing for
stocking stuffers and want to share
this one with you:
The best Christmas gift of all is
the presence of a happy family all
wrapped up with one another.
John and I would like to take this
opportunity to say "Merry
Christmas" to all the readers of the
Londesboro News.
We wish you
Old fashioned pleasure,
Happy memories,
And all the joys of the
Holiday Season.
