At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
'Tis the season to be jolly! And
that's what we are at the Brussels
Legion Branch.
The Friday night supper of roast
beef was delicious as were the added
treats for a few lucky diners. This
week is potluck, so bring your
favourite dish and join in.
It is also the gift exchange as well.
If you want to, you can bring a $10
gift and take part.
On Saturday it was Bluewater
Ladies darts keeping the upstairs
busy and downstairs it was
Christmas euchre. There were 15
tables at play and lots of happy win-
ners. The prize money was won by
the lucky ladies Mabel Wheeler and
Laura Johnston with 81 points for
first place. The second and third-
place teams were tied with 79 points
for all, so the happy pairs were
Stewart and Bea Rowley and. Jim
Coultes and his friend George. The
lone hand angel smiled on Lloyd
Appleby and Eileen Sellers. Door
prizes went to quite a few lucky peo-
ple.
Merry Christmas to all our euchre

The joy of the season is catching.
There are the looks of pride and con-
fidence of the children as the offer
their gifts — their talents and time — at
the school concerts and church serv-
ices. The adults smile and pass along
their offerings — a thoughtful word
and deed. The smile gets passed again
this time with a plate of cookies and a
card and the smile goes again this
time with a phone call and a cheerful
chat. The feeling of goodwill and
players. See you in 2002.
If you weren't out on Sunday for
the Christmas brunch you missed a
wonderful meal. Everything from
bacon and ham to soup and muffins
were available. Christmas squares
satisfied the sweet tooth.
Over 65 went away full.
The December general meeting is
this coming Thursday evening at 7
p.m. and everyone is invited to
attend.
Don't forget, this Saturday before
Christmas there are always extra
people around and extra prizes to be
had. Drop in and see if any old
friends are around.
The Legion will close Christmas
Eve at 6 p.m. and will be closed
Christmas and Boxing Day.
New Year's Eve tickets are avail-
able at the Branch and at Murray
Lowe's barbershop, so drop in and
pick yours up today.

generosity are wonderful whether you
are the giver or the receiver.
This season is so special — we don't
wait to see if it's correct or acceptable
we just pass the smile, the gift with all
the love that goes with it. Hurrah for
December!
This is a very emotional time of
year as we think of those who will not
be with us to celebrate. A death, ill-
ness, divorce, family concerns or new
job responsibility change the dynam-
ics. Acknowledge the fact that you
feel sad or angry, shed the needed
tears then dig up the good memories
of years past and enjoy them again.
Only after you've accepted the fact
that things change, can you live in
this season with an open heart ready
to share.the precious time in love and
harmony.
Visitors are around the village as
extended families gather to' share
their history and family love with
meals, gifts and especially time
together.
Open house is another way we
gather as friends to remember the
times past, recall the events that need

The judges' rounds have been com-
pleted and the best decorated house
and business have been selected for
this Christmas season.
It was a difficult decision for resi-
dential with many worthy displays
noted. However, the judges were
impressed with the effort of Frank
and Mary Stretton at 23 Halliday St.
"The decorations extend to the prop-
erty edge and around the back_giving
this home a welcoming look. It looks
so festive you can almost taste the
eggnog you're sure they must be serv-
ing inside."
The Wings of Hope youth group
was the hands-down winner of the
commercial prize for the work at the
Homecoming Gazebo. It was a nice
all-round effort to create a bright spot
beginning with the Ode. and Mary
Stewart Collect, followed by the sec-
retary's, treasurer's and sunshine
reports.
Arrangements were made to pack
the Christmas boxes on Wednesday,
Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Maple Villa.
Arrangements were also made for
making another quilt in the new year.
A special visitor, Santa, gave out
the gifts. Afterwards there were
readings by Ruth Bauer, Leona
Armstrong, Lucy Hesse and Edna
McLellan. Ruth Bauer also had a
spelling bee.
