At the Branch
Wednesday night euchres, crib, cancelled
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Wednesday night men's
euchres and mixed crib has had a
poor turnout and with the busy
Christmas season upon us, they will
be cancelled until further notice.
Last Monday evening was the
annual inspection with Zone
Commander Bob Grey and Deputy
Zone Commander Shirley Chalmers
attending the general meeting. There
were only 15 members present.
The general business was dis-
cussed and they went over our min-
utes and treasurer's books.
A social time followed the meet-
ing.
Friday night's supper of turkey
was delicious. This week lasagna is
on the menu.
On Saturday, the PeeWee team
sponsored by the Legion, took part
in the Legion Tournament held in
Lucknow. They played three games
and defeated Hensall 2-0 in the first
game, then Howick 4-1.
In the final game, for the B cham-
pionship, they were tied 2-2 at the
end of regular on time and lost 4-3 in
a shootout.
Congratulations to the PeeWee
team on a fine effort at this tourna-
ment.
Saturday afternoon saw Santa visit
the town of Brussels and stop at the
Legion to distribute candy bags to
the children. Thanks to Sergeant-at-
Arms Lisa Glanville, Comrades
Mike Vader and Rick McDonald for
carrying the flags.
The chance to pay the early bird
fee for membership has passed but
members are encouraged to pay
before Dec. 31 to make lifelasier for
the membership chairman. We have
had eight new members join the
Branch and initiation will be held
soon. Early Bird winner for
November is Ken Bird.
For sports, sign-up sheets are up.
Come in and check them out. You
must be a member in good standing
(your dues paid up), to participate in
events so make sure your dues are
paid.
Our hall is available to rent and
can accommodate a crowd of 100 -
200 comfortably. Our Ladies
Auxiliary does an excellent job of
catering and more information can
be obtained by calling the Branch at
887-6562 after 4 p.m.
Congratulations to Comrade Gord
Workman and his wife Isabel on
their 60th wedding anniversary.
Don't forget New Year's Eve tick-
ets are available at the Branch with
only 120 being sold. Get in and get
yours today.
The winners of the literary and
poster competition were presented
with their prizes at the schools on
Thursday by Youth Chairman Sandra
Josling and Comrade .Jo-Ann

a tough job.
