THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5. 2001. Silver Tops enjoy meal at M. Seers' - Sample - The Silver Tops were guests at Maxine Seers' home on Nov. 28 at 12:30 p.m. for roast beef with all the trimmings. After dinner Daryl Ball told about and showed pictures of his trip with two others to India. We learned a great deal about the wealth and the poverty among the people. We saw pictures of the beautiful mosques and Moslem tombs with magnificent fili- gree work. A great deal of work was done on marble. We also saw that though it was good agricultural land, the work is done mainly by hand and children are workers when they are far too young. People do not reach the elderly age that we do; the average age of death is late 40s. They live in what we would call shacks, and work for practically noth- ing. Hindu is the official language of India but English is used and the signs are in English. Cows are sacred. Income in India is very small. Daryl had an elephant ride but said that for him once was enough! Daryl brought home some articles from India and said that the prices were quite reasonable. He showed some lovely marble tiles and a beau- tiful rug. Where he bought the rug there was a room of them which were on display. He found it a very worth- while trip and would not mind going there again, he said. It was extra nice because he was with two friends and travelled with another small group. Rev. Paul Ross then treated the group to a story of a year of depres- sion at Christmas time. Folks were down in the dumps but one good- '.natured chap thought of something that could be done to make folks hap- pier. His actions drew the whole neighbourhood into being involved in enjoying things. This cheerful chap was St. Francis of Assisi. • A short business session followed. No definite plan was made for a future meeting. It was decided to see what the weatherman had in store. We also would welcome new mem- bers at any time. Our numbers are diminishing and we need new blood. A quilt made for John Raithby was shown. Ila Cunningham also showed one that she has made for an elderly lady. The Bible study group met at Marie Bergsma's home on Nov. 27 Rev. Paul Ross played his portable piano and a number of hymns were enjoyed. Bible study was from Mark 16 on the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus. Christ died on the cross in a shorter time than is usual in that kind of death. His body was taken from the cross and after Sunday two women came to the tomb to anoint e• We had a special little lady with us for the afternoon — little redhead dar- ling Jean-ette Plaetzer came with Grandma Ila and as usual was as good as gold. During the meal there was a birth- day contest and Eileen McClinchey and Kay Lapp were the lucky win- ners. Ethel Ball is also to be thanked for the bookmarks that she made and gave to everyone. his body with special spices as was the custom. When they got to the tomb they found that the large stone had been rolled away. On entering the tomb they found a young man sitting there in white attire and they were frightened. The man told them He was not there, that He had risen. Christ's mother Mary and Mary Magdalene were fright- ened and amazed. They left quickly and told no one. :At - NEWS FROM AUBURN Mitchell Reilley McKay December 16 son of Joshua Gropp & Lisa McKay Crucifixion, resurrection Bible study group's topic 2a6lett ef the ilea* 2CC1 COMMEMORATE THE NEWEST FAMILY MEMBER'S 1ST NEW YEAR Join the gallery of_ faces in The Citizen's baby photo display January 9, 2002 Send or bring a picture of your little one born in 2001 along with a writeup which includes full name, birth date and parents' names, to be featured, .in The Citizen's Gallery of Faces on January 9, 2002, for only $16.50 (GST included).
