Grey Central Echo
Legion representatives present awards
On Thursday, Legion members Jo-
Ann McDonald and Sandra Josling
stopped by Grey Central Public
School to recognize the artistic and
literary contributions of Grey's
Grade 6, 7 and 8 students to the
Legion's poster, poetry and essay
contests.
After the presentation of student
awards, Mrs. McDowell was proud
to accept Grey's poppy appreciation
award, which was awarded to Grey
to recognize the participation of our
students in the many Remembrance
activities.
Special thanks to the judges who
must have had a hard time choosing
winners from all of the great entries.
Again, thanks to the Legion for
sponsoring meaningful learning
activities.
Everyone got their report cards on
Monday. Interviews were held on
Thursday evening and Friday.
Upcoming Christmas activities at
Grey include the Christmas concert
on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m., our Christmas
dinner on Dec. 19 and skating at the
arena on Dec. 21.
In Miss McKay's class, the after-
noon class is writing newspaper sto-
ries and typing them out on the com-
puter. The morning class is writing
letters to Santa.
In Mrs. Scott's class, the kinder-
garten students are learning about the
letter R. In art, they made rainbows
and robots.
Mrs. Bowler's kindergarten class
is doing Christmas activities. They
are also reviewing letters.
Miss Hill's class is still counting
by twos in math, but they will soon
be back to counting by ones when
they start their Christmas count-
down. A special someone has a birth-
day coming up and the class will be
thrilled to sing Happy Birthday to
her.
Mr. Park's-class was situated in the
library last week while their class-
room was being painted. They really
like the library but Mr. Park wants to
go back to his classroom because of-..
the snails and the fish. Some of rea-
sons the kids have enjoyed learning
in the library this week are the com-
puters and all the books they can
read.
This week Mrs. Hemingway's
Grade 3 class has been learning the
letter L in handwriting, division in
math and what the farm' animals in
pioneer times were used for. They
have also been practising making
stories, which they edited and
revised afterwards. They are singing
about zebras as they get ready for
Christmas concert. The Grade 3s did
some silhouette pictures in art, and
are learning about static electricity in
science.
Signs stolen
from -
McKillop
Huron OPP officers were contact-
ed by the works department of Huron
East over the theft of signs on Nov.
29 shortly before noon.
Two signs with the words "caution
blind child in the area" were stolen
from Maple Line in McKillop. The
two signs were up on both sides of a
residence that had a blind child liv-
ing at the residence to warn the pub-
lic of the possible danger. The signs
are valued at $500 and were stolen
sometime in the last week.
The OPP are concerned for the
safety of the child. If any person
knows where the signs can be locat-
ed or the persons responsible call the
local OPP or Crime Stoppers so they
can be reinstalled.
Mrs. Murray's Grade 4s are work-
ing hard on sound in science and
medieval times in social studies.
They are also working very hard on
their musical for the Christmas con-
cert.
Mr. Walker's Grade 4/5 class is
doing multiplication in math. In sci-
ence, they are learning about differ-
ent types of forces like drag, thrust,
gravity and lift. They are making
poems about different things that the
classmates choose.
Mrs. Mitchell's class had a visitor
last week. Sr. Const. Shropshall vis-
ited with the Grade 4/5 and 6 classes
on Wednesday. He shared informa-
tion about how to identify and deal
with bullies. The students were very
attentive to his presentation and mes-
sage.
Miss Henry's intermediate girls
volleyball team participated in a
tournament in East Wawanosh on
Wednesday. Mr. Walker, the boys'
volleyball coach, accompanied the
boys to their tournament at Wingham
the same day.
