A good bunch of kids gather and are learning the fundamentals of basic training. The child video identification pro- gram was held on Wednesday and Thursday last week. This program was started in 1986 after two high school students came_ up with the idea of what type of program could best assist police in identifying a missing child. The OPP approved the videotape program, which was embraced by our District C Legion area. The videotape shows the normal gait of the child, normal speech pat- tern and three views — left, right and face forward. Permission is received from the school boards and then the school itself. The parents' permission is then needed with a signed consent form. Children are taped from junior kindergarten and senior kinder- garten, Grade 4 and Grade -8 and new students to the schools as signif- icant changes are seen between these years. The taped picture also pro- vides colouring for hair, eyes and skin, as well as height. The tapes are kept by the school or school board office and are tagged for easy identification. Youth Chairman Sandra Josling and her team enjoyed doing the tap- ing and thank the teachers and school for their co-operation. Last week's mixed crib still only had a few but we will persist. Journey to Bethlehem will be a per- formance of Christmas readings and songs, the highlight reading being a delightful story - The Shepherd's Boy - written by John A. Siecker of Whitechurch. Guest readers, includ- ing Joan Huzar, and Warren and Eleanor Robinson, will assist in pre- senting the story. Hansen and the_ choir have been preparing for the concert through the fall months and will present a selec- tion of traditional and contemporary numbers. Hansen is an accomplished choral conductor and organist. He also conducts the Georgian Bay Concert Choir and the Georgian.Bay Children's Choir in Owen Sound and the Stonetown Choral Society in St. Marys and is also director of Music at St. Marys United Church. The Blyth Festival Singers are pleased to welcome the Goderich Area Youth Chorus to the perform- ance. This choir is made up of boys and girls from Grades 3-8 and is led by Kathleen King Martin or Goderich and accompanist Sharon Johnston, who also accompanies the Blyth Festival Singers. Johnston also accompanies the McKay Choristers and is a well known pianist and harpist. The Goderich Area Youth Chorus was founded in 1998 by parents and music teachers who saw a need for a children's choir that provided excel- lent instruction in choral music to ele- mentary age children. The choir has performed throughout Huron County, in Guelph, at the Walkerton Music Festival and are featured on two CD recordings. The choirs will perform individual- ly and will join together to sing favourite Christmas selections from well known choral composers like John Rutter. A special guest for the performance will be organist Angus Sinclair of London. A former conductor with the Blyth Festival Singers, Sinclair is an accomplished organist whose work includes accompanying the nationally acclaimed Three Cantors, the trio of singing Anglican priests. Sinclair brings impressive credentials, cre- ativity, focus and energy to every per- formance and is thrilling to watch and listen to at the organ console. In 1999, he was awarded The Order of Huron - the highest honour the Diocese bestows upon a non- ordained member of the Church for outstanding service and ministry. Journey to Bethlehem takes place on Sunday, Dec. 9 at St. George's Anglican Church, 87 North St., Goderich.
