Huron East council briefs Clinic needs $20,000 to keep Brussels office open The future of the Brussels Medical Clinic was discussed at the Nov. 20 meeting of Huron East council. The discussion was precipitated by the receipt of a letter from Mary Fisher, Seaforth Medical Clinic manager. The letter had been presented to council at their committee meeting a week previously. At that time the matter was tabled for a week until Fisher could attend a meeting in per- son. Fisher's letter stated that the Brussels Clinic was being subsidized The Municipality of Morris- Turnberry held its regular council meeting on Nov. 20 and had a wide variety of items on the agenda. After discussion it was decided to, accept the quote from Carter Waste Disposal of $101.92 minus a $20 tipping fee for a cost of $81.92 per household. This is to be reviewed after one year. A recorded vote was held on the motion and it passed 6-1 with Deputy-Mayor Bill Thompson opposed. *** The municipality will be partici- pating in the Road Watch program. A grant of $500 will be made to the organization to help with start-up costs. The drop boxes for Road Watch forms have been purchased and three insurance companies have agreed to pay for the signs informing people that the program is in effect. *** Council agreed to provide a grant of $50 to help fund the Vandals target vehicle On Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. OPP officers were advised of vandalism done to a vehicle in Morris on Cranbrook Road. The owner of a pickup truck had left the vehicle sitting in the fam- ily driveway and sometime between Nov. 16 - 18 the gas cap was removed and a substance put into the gas tank. The vehicle ran roughly and was taken to a local garage for repairs. Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP office or Crime Stoppers. in the amount of approximately $20,000 a year. It went on to say that they would be unable to continue doing this without compromising the Seaforth Clinic. The appearance of Fisher at the council meeting did not clear up the exact reason for the deficit at Brussels. Currently the rent for the municipally-owned building is $440 per month with $70 or $80 for utili- ty costs. They clinic is also responsi- ble for the cost of the office staff when open Christmasparade in Blyth. *** In an effort to .stop unauthorized dumping at the landfill site the coun- cil approved notices to be placed in local papers. :The notices declared that dumping was only allowed dur- ing authorized hours and that the OPP would be maintaining a watch on the landfill. Council declared that individuals found on site out of oper- ating hours would be treated as tres- passers. *** A letter from the Seaforth Medical Clinic asking for financial aid to keep the Brussels and Blyth clinics open was discussed. The decision was to have Councillor Edna McLellan report back to council after meeting with the Brussels Medical Council has asked Fisher to pro- vide more financial detail before any decision is made. *** Paul Josling received a certificate from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing recognizing his successful completion of a property standards enforcement course. Josling told council that he was in the process of applying for his certi- fication as a chief building official. *** Huron East has issued 197 build- Centre board. Council will also be sending a letter to the clinic manager in Seaforth asking for further finan- cial details. *** The council authorized staff to pre- pare a letter to be sent to tbe Avon Maitland District School Board sup- porting the efforts of local school councils to keep Blyth, Brussels, East Wawanosh and Turnberry pub- lic schools open. ing permits worth $13,430,000 up to Nov. 19 of this year.
