Excellent turnout to information meeting
Grey's School Council was over-
whelmed by the excellent turnout at
the accommodation review informa-
tion meeting held Tuesday evening,
Nov. 20.
The next step in the process
involves meetings where delegations
from each of the schools under
review make a short presentation to
the Avon Maitland District School
Board. Members of the Grey school
council will be making a presenta-
tion to the board on behalf of Grey at
7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the
high school in Clinton. The council
invites community members inter-
ested in lending their support to Grey
to attend this important meeting.
School council has arranged busing
departing from Grey at 6 p.m. that
evening.
The time of arrival back will be
after 11 p.m.
For details, call Dianne Diehl 887-
9442; Arlene Lanting 356-1118;
Alicia Dietner 887-6502; or Shirley
Baker 887-6355.
Grey's Christmas Concert will be
held on Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Last week, Miss MacKay's after-
noon class completed the rat maze
that they have been constructing.
Mark Tully's rat, Stuart, visited
school last Friday to test out the
maze. He went halfway through and
came back.
In Mrs. Scott's class this week
they learned about the letter E. This
week they coloured elephants and
made elves. For show and tell Famke
Van Brugge brought her Grandma
and Grandpa from Holland.
After spending a week in the
library while their classroom was
being painted, Mrs. Bowler's class
had returned to their classroom
where they are still learning about
technology. They are learning the
letter R. They are starting Christmas
activities, and working on the
Christmas concert.
In math, Miss Hill's class is learn-
ing how to count by twos. They are
making a book called All About Me.
Mr. Park's class made the big
move to the library, where they will
be learning this week while their
classroom is being painted. They had
an exciting time working with the
Grade 6s during Learning Buddies
on Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Hemingway's class is proud
to announce the arrival of Zachary, a
new student. This week, the Grade
3s have been talking about division,
learning their seven times table and
how to handwrite the letter K. They
also learned about how the natives
helped the pioneers.
In science, they did an experiment
on iron filings. During phys. ed, they
are working on rhythm and dance
steps. They are getting ready to start
their singing for the upcoming
Christmas concert.
Mrs. Murray's Grade 4s are prac-
tising a musical for the Christmas
concert. They are going to memorize
a whole CD full of songs!
Mrs. Murray is also organizing the
primary choir who will be contribut-
ing to the concert as well. The Grade
4s are working on subtraction as
well.
There were two birthdays this past
week: Ashley Cove-Button's and
Mrs. Murray's.
Mr. Walker's Grade 4/5 class is
making another movie called
"Aliens attack the school". In the
movie, Mr. Walker gets trapped in
the library! In science, they are
build'ng bridges.
In addition to working on Legion
essays and posters about
Remembrance this week, Mrs.
Mitchell's Grade 6 students have
r
been figuring out the surface area of
squares, rectangles and parallelo-
grams. The Grade 6s are displaying
excellent sportsmanship and co-
operation in phys. ed as they develop
their volleyball skills.
Most of the Grade 6 students are
also participating in intramural vol-
leyball, too. Thanks to Miss Henry
and Mrs, Hemingway for coaching
during noon hour intramurals!
This week Miss Henry's class
learned about heating homes and
wasting heat. They also learned how
to classify angles. On Tuesday, the
Grade 7/8s enjoyed their visit to the
Tech 21 lab in Listowel. Miss Henry
reports seeing many "neat" wood-
working projects.
The Grade 7/8$ are making log
heads in art. They will be on display
at the school before Christmas.
They are having tests on area,
perimeter, and combined shapes. In
music, they are singing a lot of
Christmas songs.
