New speed limits will be posted on the edges of several urban areas including Blyth under a bylaw passed by Huron County council Nov. 1. The portion of County Rd. 4 from the south end of Blyth to south of Sparling's Propane will be posted as a 70 km per hour zone becalm- of concern for those turning into the new soccer field ac well as Sparling's. New speed limits will also post- ed at the edge of Fordwich, Wrc xeter and Gorrie as well as the intersection of County Rd. 84 and Hwy. 21 west of Zurich at St. Joseph, where it's hoped a slower speed limit will lessen the noise from rumble strips the county installed on the road. *** All homes in Central Huron will be receiving an unactivated library card in an effort to increase use of county libraries. Under the experiment, residents who receive a card need only visit a county library to have the card acti- vated. Central Huron Councillor Carol Mitchell said a similar pro- gram had been conducted in Windsor creating greater library use. It will cost about $3,000. "It will be interesting to see just how many cards are activated," Warden Norm Fairless commen- ted. *** The county is co-ordinating an application on behalf of all nine municipalities for funding through a provincial program to study ground- water. The study would include all municipal wells in the county. It would cost $1.3 million to study all the wells in the county but the entire provincial allotment is only $10 million, said Scott Tousaw of the planning department, so it's unlikely Huron wild get all the money it needs. *** Friends of the (Huron County) Museum raised $1,400 from serving baked beans and pork at the Thresher Reunion in Blyth in September.
