3,386 head sold during week at Brussels
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Nov.
9 were 3,386 head of cattle, 317
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold on a steady market. the
cows sold $1 to $2 lower. On
Thursday, the veal traded at prices $2
to $3 higher. The lambs sold on a
steady market. On Friday all weights
and classes of stockers sold on a
steady market.
There were 555 steers on offer
selling from $95 to $100 with sales
to $120. Scottslea Farms Ltd.,
Blyth, consigned one blue steer
weighing 1,330 lbs. which was pur-
chased by Norwich Packers for
$120. One limousin steer consigned
by Merkley Farms, Wroxeter,
weighed 1,300 lbs. selling to
Norwich Packers for $112.50. Their
overall consignment of two limousin
steers averaged 1,318 lbs. for an
average price of $108.45.
Tyler Murray, Lucknow, con-
signed one limousin steer weighing
1,355 lbs. which sold to Norwich
Packers for $105.25. Two limousin
steers consigned by Eileen
Wideman, Listowel, averaged 1,533
lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for

year's Ecological Farmers
Association of Ontario (EFAO)
annual general meeting and Western
Region Symposium to be held on
Nov. 24 at the West Williams Twp.
Hall, southwest of Parkhill.
This symposium will provide
members with more information on
the impact of nutrient management
legislation on small and organic
farms and on the care of watercours-
es on farms.
In the morning Rick Steele, a
water quality specialist with the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority (MVCA) will speak on.

continuity with municipal insurance
coverage, North Huron council did
decide at its Nov. 6 meeting to ten-
der.
When reminded by Clerk-
Administrator John Stewart that the
time had come to make a decision on
whether or not they would renew the
current coverage - or tender,
Councillor Murray Nesbitt spoke in
favour of the latter.
Councillor Archie MacGowan,
however, cautioned against "switch-
ing back and forth (between insur-
ers) for a fistful of dollars."
Councillor Jeff Howson, whom,
while agreeing there was no harm in

Woodstock, consigned eleven steers
averaging 1,472 lbs. selling for an

ing 1,215 lbs. which sold to
Highland Packers Ltd. for $103. The
overall consignment of two steers
averaged 1,373 lbs. for an average of
$97.71. One gold steer consigned by
Don Shiell, Wingham, weighed
1,400 lbs. which sold to Dominion
Meats for $107. His overall consign-
ment of sixteen steers averaged
1,569 lbs. for an average of $94.52.
There were 331 heifers on offer
selling from $95 to $100 with sales
to $116.25. Walkover Farms,
Walkerton, consigned two blue
heifers averaging 1,290 lbs. selling
to Norwich Packers for $116.25.
Their overall consignment of thir-
teen heifers averaged 1,215 lbs. for
an average price of $107.07. One red
heifer consigned by Rockx Farms,
Tillsonburg, weighed 1,180 lbs. and
was purchased by Dominion Meats
for $110. Their overall consignment
of forty-eight heifers averaged 1,348
lbs. for an average price of $99.30.
Bev Hamilton, Hensall, consigned
twelve black heifers averaging 1,290
lbs. for an average of $102.82 with

Following lunch there will be a
short business meeting then Annette
Verhagen will give an introduction
to the Growing Organic Agriculture
Project, a joint venture between
EFAO, Ontarbio and MVCA. The
day will end with the popular
Farmers' Forum when participants
share farming experiences from the
past year. Crop successes and fail-
ures, coping with the weather,
queries and triumphs will all be
shared.
The EFAO was established in
tendering, backed up MacGowan's
view saying, "the lowest is not
always the best."

McKenzie, Dublin, consigned four
heifers averaging 1,248 lbs. selling
for an average of $99.77 with his top
limousin heifer weighing 1,250 lbs.

1,287 lbs. selling for an average of
$98.83. His top three red heifers
averaging 1,195 lbs. selling to

There were 241 cows on offer. D1
and D2 cows sold $57 to $62 with
sales to $83.50; D3, $52 to $57; D4,
$40 to $50. Phil Clark, Goderich,
consigned one holstein cow weigh-
ing 1,205 lbs. which was purchased
by Packerland Packing Co. Inc. for
$83.50. His overall consignment of
seven cows averaged 1,278 lbs. for
1979 with the purpose of helping
members develop ecological farm-
ing methods which maintain and
enhance the health of the soil, the
crops, the livestock and the commu-
nity. Membership, including farm-
ers, rural' non-farmers and con-
sumers, strives to farm in ways that
maintain and enhance the health of
not only their farms but the ecologi-
cal and human community around
them.
The cost of the symposium is $15
for EFAO members, $20 for non-
members and an organic lunch is
included.
The West Williams •Twp. Hall is
