PAGE 24. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2001.
From past to present.
Recently Max Oldfield, owner of
the hardware store in Brussels, had a
special visitor to his store.
Kathy Marini, of Etobicoke, is the
granddaughter of Samuel Wilton,
one-time owner of the store. Wilton
also served as Master of St.
John's Lodge 284 A.F. & A.M. in
1896.
Marini, with her husband Guido,
visited with Oldfield, who also took
time to show them around.
By way of thanks she sent him a
letter and a photograph showing
Wilton, his son, John, who died of
TB in 1914 and Will Gillespie.
In her letter Marini told Oldfield
that while she doesn't know when
her grandfather owned the store, she
does know that it was a thriving
business when her mother,
Marguerite, Wilton's youngest child,
was born in 1903.
