Home & Garden 2001
Humble home
This was the home of Allan and Cheryl Krotz and family
when they purchased it in 1986. (Photo submitted)
Coming down
In the summer of this year, the kitchen portion of the home
was tarn down to make way for a new addition. (Photo submitted)
Completion date nears

more than doubled in width.
A patio door will lead out to the
new deck which will be completed
next year.
Two stairways will lead to the sec-
ond floor where the younger family
members now have not just roomy
bedrooms but a spacious bath with
whirlpoOl tub.
As any family who remains in the
home while work is being done, ren-
ovations came with short sacrifices.
Cheryl said they "camped" in the
front of the house while the addition
was constructed. .
The washer and dryer were in the
barn which was also where the fami-
ly went to shower. The family has
been crawling into the living room
through a window in the wall.
Eventually, walls will be removed
opening the area to the games and
computer rooms (formerly the chil-
dren's bedrooms).
And though there is still some
work to be done; the Krotzes hope it
will be completed by Christmas; one
need not any longer imagine the
potential.
Outside the vision is already com-
plete. The addition blends perfectly
into the original structure. "We have
had many people say it doesn't look
like an addition," said Cheryl.
Indeed, no passer-by would sus-
pect that at the heart of this impres-
sive country home was a somewhat
"rundown" little farmhouse.
Open spaces
Cheryl Krotz enjoys the new
kitchen of their recently reno-
vated farmhouse. Not only did
she increase cupboard space,
but the room is double the
width of the previous one. A
centre island increases counter
space and adds c6untry charm.
