Huron County's health inspectors
are doing barely half the number of
inspections of food premises as they
should be under provincial guide-
lines, a report to county council says.
The Mandatory Health Programs
and Services Guidelines call for
three inspections a year for high-risk
premises like nursing homes and full
menu restaurants, two inspections of
medium risk establishments like
bakeries and many restaurants and
one visit a year to low risk outlets for
ready-to-eat foods such as, milk
stores.
In 2000, health inspectors man-
aged to make 55 per cent of the calls
they should on low risk premises, 53
per cent on medium risk locations
Jankowski were named Ontario
Scholars. Bokhout also received the
Central Huron Secondary School
teachers' award for leadership and

awarded the Municipality of Central
Huron Award for his contributions to
all aspects of school life.
The Angela Konarski Memorial

helping others, through involvement

but only 26 per cent on high risk
establishments. The 51 per cent
overall compliance matched the
1999 rate and was up considerably
from the 35 per cent in 1998 and
only 18 per cent in 1997.
Lack of staff may be the problem
in meeting regulations, the report
from the health and planning com-
mittee said, but a time and activity
tracking system has been instituted
to see if staff time is being used as
efficiently as possible.
