funds for literacy materials for the
school. The World Book readathon
wraps up Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Grey Central School Council has
organized a Florida orange and
grapefruit sale. Order forms were

Miss MacKay's morning class is
writing Thanksgiving poems, stories
and making wreaths. Her afternoon
class is playing with dice to learn
how to write numbers in expanded
form. Her classes are getting started
on wood working Halloween proj-
ects.
Mrs. Scott's class is learning about
the letter A. They made ant booklets.
They also are learning about
Thanksgiving. They made
Thanksgiving turkeys in art.
The students in Mrs. Bowler's
kindergarten class are learning about
frogs. They have just finished learn-
ing about Thanksgiving.
In the Grade 1/2 class, they started
studying snails. Mr. Park's terrarium
is also set up.

B, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4/5 and 5/6 will be
off to the Blyth Theatre on Monday,
Oct. 15 in the morning to see the
Cinderella production. The students
will be leaving the school at 9:45
a.m. and will return by lunch
time.
A bus evacuation program is
scheduled for the school on Tuesday,
Oct. 16 beginning at 9 a.m. The pur-
drew the fall leaves with charcoal.
The class did very well on their
P.E.I. test.
Mr. Walker's Grade 4/5 class are
doing experiments on matter. They
made lots of beautiful clouds this
week and finished their graphing
unit.
The highlight of the week for the
Grade 6 class was their flight field
trip. Two local families opened their
hangars to Mrs. Mitchell's class and
their chaperones. Students were
excited to be reunited with Mrs.
Martin, whom they remembered
from her teaching days at Grey.
The class spent the morning learn-
ing at the home of Don and Yvonne
Martin, where the Martin's demon-
strated a "walk around" and taught
all sorts of interesting facts about
planes and flight. Students had a
chance to sit in a plane and ask all
the questions that they had prepared
prior to the trip. Mr. Hoover taxied
up and down the runway with the
bus, but alas, it did not take off.
pose is to practise appropriate bus
evacuation procedures for emer-
gency situations. Students require
appropriate clothing for the day
(dresses and skirts would not be suit-
able attire). Activities will include
viewing of an emergency evacuation
video and actual bus evacuation
exercises.
All students will be scheduled
using their own bus and driver.
The Grade 7/8 class will be visit-
ing the Blyth Theatre on Friday, Oct.
19 to see the production of Macbeth.
The students will be leaving the
school at 12:45 p.m. and will be
returning by bus time. A permission
letter will be sent home on Monday,
Oct. 1.
From the Martin's, the Grade 6s
proceeded to the Armstrong aero-
drome for an exciting afternoon of
learning, following a lunchtime
spent in the Armstrong's beautiful
barn, which has been converted into
a cottage.
Jim Armstrong had great lessons
planned for the Grade 6 students. He
outlined participation in flight and
how it has grown into a family pas-
sion. He shared a great video on
early flying contraptions and stu-
dents had the opportunity to apply
their knowledge of the four forces of
flight to explain why these inven-
tions never got off the ground! Mr.
Armstrong showed a Pietenpol he
built, his minicab and an ultralite
that pulls hang_gliders.
Mr. Armstrong showed two planes
Higher learning
that are being built and talked about
the materials and processes involved
in building these aircraft.
Students also had a chance to con-
struct their own paper airplanes and
fly them in a distance competition.
At both stops, the hosts not only
taught them a great deal, but sent
them home with special mementos
.of their trip.
They thank Don and Yvonne
Martin and Jim Armstrong for shar-
ing their knowledge and passion for
flight. Special thanks also to those
who accompanied the class on the
field trip: Pauline -Daugherty,
Gordon Randall, Marie Blake,
Shirley Baker and bus driver,
Murray Hoover.
Miss Henry's Grade 7s are looking
.forward to going to Tech 21.
