From the Martin's, the Grade 6s proceeded to the Armstrong aero- drome for an exciting afternoon of learning, following a lunchtime spent in the Armstrong's beautiful barn, which has been converted into a cottage. Jim Armstrong had great lessons planned for the Grade 6 students. He outlined participation in flight and how it has grown into a family pas- sion. He shared a great video on early flying contraptions and stu- dents had the opportunity to apply their knowledge of the four forces of flight to explain why these inven- tions never got off the ground! Mr. Armstrong showed a Pietenpol he built, his minicab and an ultralite that pulls hang_gliders. Mr. Armstrong showed two planes Higher learning that are being built and talked about the materials and processes involved in building these aircraft. Students also had a chance to con- struct their own paper airplanes and fly them in a distance competition. At both stops, the hosts not only taught them a great deal, but sent them home with special mementos .of their trip. They thank Don and Yvonne Martin and Jim Armstrong for shar- ing their knowledge and passion for flight. Special thanks also to those who accompanied the class on the field trip: Pauline -Daugherty, Gordon Randall, Marie Blake, Shirley Baker and bus driver, Murray Hoover.
