In memoriam
McCALL. In loving memory of
Bruce McCall, who passed away
three years ago, October I1, 1998.
He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and friend.
To a beatitiful life came a sudden
end,
He died as he lived, everyone's
friend.
He was always thoughtful, loving
and kind,
What a glorious memory he left
behind!
He left so suddenly, his thoughts
unknown,
But he left us memories we are
proud to own.
Treasure him, God, in your Garden
of Rest;
For in this world he was one of the
best.
They say time heals and helps us
forget
But time has only proven how
much we miss him yet.
— Lovingly remembered and sadly
missed by Doris and family. 40-1p
RYAN. In loving memory of Mary
Alice, who passed away October
15, 1984.
You're not forgotten, daughter or
sister, dear
Nor ever shall you be;
As long as life and memory last
We shall remember thee.
— Forever loved and always
remembered by Mom and Dad;
Paul, Cheryl, Curtis and Matthew;

WHEELER. In loving memory of a
dear husband, father and grandpa,
Robert Wheeler who passed away
October 12, 2000.
Loving memories never die,
As the year rolled on and days
passed by.
In our hearts a memory is kept,
Of the one we love and will never
forget.
— Always loved and remembered
by Isabelle, Brian and Suzanne,
Wayne and Julie, Bryce, Chad and
Ashley. 40-lp

who passed away one year ago on
October 12, 2000.
The rolling stream of life rolls on,
But still the vacant chair
Recalls the love, the voice, the
smile
Of the one who once sat there.
— Lovingly remembered by Wayne,
Julie, Bryce and Chad. 40-1p

Duff's enjoys
special service
Leona McDonald greeted wor-
shippers at Duff's United Church on
Oct. 7, a very snowy Thanksgiving
Sunday.
The front of the sanctuary was
trimmed for fall with flowers and
cornstalks, fresh fruits and a few
other decorations. Phyllis Mitchell,
with her violin, and Glenda
Morrison, at the organ, filled the
church with their music.
The service began with the
singing of Make a Joyful Noise with
the Sunday School children and
adult choir proceeding down the
aisles.
Following the opening prayer
Joan Tuchlinsky made the
announcements: She will be off for
a week for her continuing education
Tuesday, Oct. 9 to Oct. 15. Next
Sunday Gloria Wilbee will be lead-
ing worship.
The Discussion Group will begin
Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the
church. People will be listening to a
tape of inspirational author/teacher
Leo Buscaglia and discuss themes
such as love, listening and fear of
rejection. Everyone is welcome.
Every third Tuesday of the month a
different topic will be discussed
using various mediums.
The children came forward as the
choir and congregation sang the
Linnea Good song, Hands Left and
Right. Ms Tuchlinsky showed them
some items that meant a lot to her
and represented things for which she
was thankful. The children said
some things that they were thankful
for too.
The choir sang Land of Beulah.
From the back of the church came
Beth Black dressed as an angel fol-
lowed by Jacob and Mackenzie
McGavin, Abbie McGavin and
cousin, Shayna Melady, Adam and
Ryan Baan, who carried baskets of
food.
Ms Tuchlinsky read Deuteronomy
26 as the children acted the story.
Then came the drama called, Bread
of Life (the story of Jesus feeding
the 5,000). Cassandra Banks was
Cam Rah, from the news room in
Jerusalem BGITN where she talked
to Mike Rophone (Karla Kale) the
roving reporter who interviewed
Beth, Laura, and Jeff Black and
Brandon McGavin played the
bystander and the religious people.
Helping with 'the communion
were: Cassandra Banks, Barb
Durrell, Kathleen Williamson,
Michael Craig, Joan, Jamie
Mitchell, Jennifer McClure, Judy
Lee and Nick Durrell.
FROM WALTON
G. Wilbee
hosts WUCC
meeting
The WUCC meeting was held last
Wednesday with Gloria Wilbee,
Heidi McClure and Melva Fraser in
charge of the worship and program.
The theme for the night was called A
Little Good News Today.
Prayers and readings were done by
the three, then a very emotional
video was watched by all. The video
was put together by Gloria and
Heidi, with different excerpts from
the Oprah shows following the
bombing on Sept. 11. The half-hour
featured many famous and not so
famous spiritual' leaders, authors,
ministers. It told about how the
American people will survive the
tragedy. They may be down but are
not beaten.
It was interesting to note that most
.of them shared the same view, that
violence and revenge are not the
answer.
Marianne Williamson, author of A
Woman's Worth and A Return to
Love, says that people must love and
forgive, even though it seems so
impossible to do.
The singing of God Bless America
ran throUghout the video with scenes
of firemen and other rescue workers
going above and beyond the call of
duty. There were scenes of people
praying, of people holding hands of
solidarity, of oneness. There was no
difference in colour, religion, gen-
der.
It is sad to note that so often it
takes a disaster to bring us together.
Gloria finished off the program by
singing the Anne Murray song A
Little Good News Today.

A night of cards
The social interaction of a good old card party is once again
a regular event in local communities. Walton had a good
turnout on Thursday night at the Hall. (Vicky Bremner photo)
