PAGE 3. gteat Sauittp, At Scrimgeour's FOOD TOWN The Blyth and Area Business Association held a breakfast meeting at the Blyth Inn with 10 members present. Jody Black reported on the fall dinner meeting and seminar Oct. 18 to be held. at the Memorial Hall. The Legion Ladies will be serving din- ner. Tickets are still available. Dinner and seminar cost $25 while the sem- inar is $15. The dinner will be served downstairs at 6 p.m. and the seminar begins upstairs at- 7 p.m. Guest speaker will be Catherine -Swift with tips on Running a Business in a Rural Community. Swift is CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. She is a government lobbyist who is coming specifically as a motivation- al speaker to address business owners about customer appreciation, PR skills and employee productivity. "All the dos and don'ts that you run into in small business," said Black. The seminar is open to anyone. Black feels it would be of beneift to anyone in business. "It would be good for businesspeople who work- with the _public in any way, from dental technicians, to farmers, to retail merchants." For tickets call Black, 523-9709 or Bev Elliott at 523-9187. The next breakfast meeting will be Nov. 27 at 8 a.m. at the Grand View Restaurant. Citrus bomb damages mailbox On Oct. 5 just before 12:45 p.m. Huron OPP were called to -a resi- dence in Hullett. The owner of the property told police that sometime during the night a person damaged thel family mail- box. The culprits put a citrus bomb inside. The bomb contains local chemicals in a two-litre bottle of pop that reacts within a short time caus- ing it to explode. Minor damage was done to the interior of the mailbox. Reports of this nature have been received over the last few months. Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP or Crime Stoppers. Don't forget the Legion Auxiliary's Dinner and Auction on Oct. 13. There are still tickets avail- able. Blyth lawn bowlers enjoyed a deli- cious potluck luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 29, Graeme McDowell retired as treasurer. The new executive for the next year are: president, Jean Nethery; secretary, June Thomas; assistant secretary, Brock Vodden; treasurer, Lawrence Plaetzer. Thanks to everyone for coming out to keep lawn bowling alive. See everyone next year. • Mary Ann Howson is. back home from hospital. Sympathy is extended to Edgar Howatt and family in the death of his wife Ferne. Greeting for Thanksgiving Sunday at the Blyth United Church were Brenda Brooks and Fred Hakkers. Ushering were Barb and Terry Richmond and Kim. The church wel- comed Rev. Cecil Wittich to lead them in their Thanksgiving service. Call to Worship was repeated responsively, followed by the open- ing prayer said in unison. Joryid, Joyful, We Adore Thee was sung. Responsive Psalm was Psalm 67. Another Thanksgiving hymn, Come Ye Thankful People, Come was sung. The choir's anthem Let all Things Now Living, was sung accompanied by guest organist Margaret Kai. The children's hymn was Can a Little Child Like Me? The children gathered at the front for their story, that God is always with them. Scripture reading was I Corinthians 1: 10-13, 3: 3-11. Rev. Wittich's message was to Forgive and Forget. The choir sang / will Dwell in You, and the Celebration of Communion took place. Sunday Schdrol starts Oct. ,,14, Come to church and bring your par- ents. Don't forget the Camp Menesetung Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Goderich. Deanna Ducharme; vice-chair, Marg Steele; secretary, Deb Hakkers; treasurer, Michelle Richmond. A teacher will rotate to each meeting. Additional parent members are Brenda Young and one vacant posi- tion. An update was given on play- ground equipment from a fundraiser from last year. This includes a tether ball, a triple hop, parallel bars and tri-level bars. Council was updated on the code of conduct and the upcoming school council form as well as fundraising.
