Heritage
FROM AUBURN
A heritage hymn service was held
at Knox United Church, Sept. 30.
The community is invited to the
Missionary Church at 7 p.m. on Oct.
4 in celebration of the recent mar-
riage of Alison Chamney to Bradley
Bell. A shower is being held in her
honour. The happy couple are now
residing in Stratford.
Bible Study was held at Auburn
United Church on Sept. 25 at 1:30
p.m. There was a reasonable turnout
for the rainy afternoon. The meeting
opened with a hymn-sing with Lois
Haines as pianist. A number of old
familiar hymns were sung.
Rev. Paul Ross then led in prayer
followed by the studying of Mark I,
21-34. Christ astonished his disciples
and the crowds with his teaching and
healing. They brought all kinds of ill-
ness to him and he made them well.

service at Knox
For the elderly members it brought
back memories of all the hymns that
their parents used to play and sing.
Numerous hymns written by Paul
Bliss were played and sung through-
out the service. Bliss did not have a
long life but certainly left us won-
derful songs. The opening one was
Wonderful Words of Life.
After prayer Rev. Paul Ross gave
church announcements. Bible study
is to be at Lois Haines' at 1:30 p.m.
on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Articles are needed for the
Thanksgiving food drive of the
Sunday School. We should remem-
ber and give generously.
There will be a board meeting on
Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Sunday
School.
Children interested in a confirma-
tion class are to tell Rev. Ross.
Rev. Ross spoke more of Paul
Bliss's life. He was musically talent-
ed. Regardless of his hard work
which started as a child he still corn-
Teresa Roetcisoender treated the
group to lunch. Lois Haines invited
the group to her home for the meet-
ing on Oct. 2.
On Thursday, Sept. 27 Bernice
Anderson and Kay Lapp enjoyed
dinner at Bailey's, Goderich with
Yanny Koopmans. After dinner
Bernice and Kay visited friends at
Goderich Place before coming home.
Everyone is sorry to hear of the ill-
ness of Gregory Park. He had a short
stay in the hospital, but is home on
the mend now. We trust he improves
daily.

posed and sang hymns.
Rev. Ross gave prayer following
which Jesus Loves Me was sung and
the children came to the front.
Out of the mystery bag an invita-
tion was drawn. Many of the chil-
dren spoke of special ones that they
had received and of the pleasure of
attending events:
Scripture was read from Judges
where the Israelites asked for a deci-
sion. Rev. Ross then continued with
more about Bliss's love of God. Let
the Lower Lights be Burning was
then sung.
Scripture from Matthew 11 on the
value of faith was read. Rev. Ross
spoke more of Bliss's enduring faith
which followed by the singing of
Almost Persuaded.
The Dana Bean family presented
the offering.
Continuing the service was anoth-
er Bliss song. It is Well With My Soul.
Rev. Ross spoke of Bliss's short life
and of all his music which is still
enjoyed.
The meeting closed with another
favourite The Light of the
World.
