Entertainment Leisure
By Jo-Ann McDonald
Fantastic! That's the comment
most heard around the Brussels
Legion Branch this weekend.
There was a fantastic turnout for
the fish fry, with over 150 enjoying
the delicious cooking. Fantastic was
the comment about the fish.
Fantastic was the entertainment of
Mike Kalbtleisch, one-man band.
And again, fantastic was the enter-
taining Branch local yokels version
of Hee-Haw.
Of course there was a big winner
of the elimination draw and that was
the grandchildren of Dave and Karen
Hastings, Colton, Heather and
Rachel. Look for a complete list of
winners in this paper.
Our seniors afternoon coffee break
had only about 20 people present to
hear the speaker from the Alzheimer
Society and the music of the Huron
Strings.
Again, Tuesday evenings are for
Cadets. They start at 6:30 p.m. and
people are welcome to drop in and
see what they are about. You need to
be between the ages of 12 and 19 to
belong to the program which is
designed to develop self-confidence
and leadership ability. Call Lt. Carr
for information at 887-9174 or e-
mail at ecam12@hotmail.com
Keep Thursday evenings open
starting Oct. 18 for mixed darts.
Tickets for the anniversary dinner
on Oct. 20 are available at the
Branch. Guest speaker is Comrade
Wally Smith, the provincial chair-
man. Entertainment is by
Sentimental Journey, a singing group
from the Listowel area.
There is no dance but a social time
will follow. All Branch members
should make an effort to attend this
special 70th anniversary evening.
Friday night supper was chicken
wings and this week will be turkey
stew.
Meat draws begin this Saturday
with a special 'Tis a Fowl Affair.
Draw between 4:30 and 5 p.m.
The new carpet on the stairs at the
front entrance of the Branch is beau-
tiful. Our thanks and appreciation to
the Ladies Auxiliary for their gener-
ous support of the Branch. Also a
new fridge has appeared in the
kitchen, again due to the efforts of
the ladies. Sometimes saying thanks,
just doesn't seem enough but the
Branch truly appreciates the efforts
of the auxiliary ladies.
Only a few more days to get in on
the early bird membership draw for
September.
