Students at Byth Public School were running around the track on a cold Monday afternoon. The
run originally scheduled for the week previous, was postponed due to rain. (Photo by David Blaney)
Prior to the Sept. 17 meeting of
North Huron council a minute's
silence was observed for the victims
and families of the terrorist attack in
New York and Washington.

Councillor Jeff Howson said he
had been questioned by residents as
to why the tax bills came in large
envelopes. He wondered if the extra
cost of mailing would be less than
the time factor of having employees'
fold and stuff.
Clerk-Administrator John Stewart
said the office had ordered the larger
envelopes expecting that the pack-
age of information was going to be
larger. It was considerably easier for
staff and there was a discount in
postage for the Blyth and East
Wawanosh bills because they were
sorted by the municipal staff, he
said.
***
Bills and accounts in the amount
of $321,306.47 were approved for
payment. Additional accounts
approved for payment were Butcher
& Restaurant Equipment, $1,466.25;
Canada Post, $5,350; Green Gallery,
$193.64; MicroAge-Basics, $337.40;
Vanessa Shelter, $82.82; American
Water Works Association, $252.

A report was presented to council
regarding the Wingham Armouries.
The facility, estimated to be at least
60 years old, is in. need of a number
of repairs. Many community groups
use the building.
Council was presented with three
options.The first, which suggests
repairing the facility at a cost of
some $96,000 to address deficien-
cies in the short-term, would be
developed over a three-to-five-year
capital plan.
That option also suggested the
space be leased and rented to com-
munity groups, as well as finding
ways to attract groups to the facility.
The second option suggests selling
the property for private develop-
ment.
The third option talks about look-
ing into.a public private partnership,
turning the property into a municipal
parking lot, considering develop-
ment of the building into apartments
or as a garage for public works.
It was noted by CoUnMlor Murray
Nesbitt that there is not a shortage of
meeting places in Wingham which
could provide alternatives to the
Armouries.

Well Done! Congratulations to the
Communities in Bloom committee
