An enjoyable evening was held at
the Legion on Saturday as SaMantha
Thomas, Amber Park and Kelly
McDonald joined former Brussels
Fair Ambassadors to celebrate the
140th fall fair. It was a night to
remember; to celebrate and dream of
the future.
Here's hoping the weather for fair
day is as good as it was on the week-
end. See you at the fair!

Winona Martin
celebrates 94th
It was Saturday, Sept. 15 when
Mrs. Winona Martin turned 94. Her
son-in-law John Tooth who works in
Montreal came to Brussels to help
celebrate Winona's birthday. They
both stayed up Friday night until
midnight, and took pictures when
Saturday was reached.
Mrs. Martin received a phone call
from her daughter Gwendolyn
Tooth who is touring Peru, Chile,
and visiting with her daughter
Lorraine Tooth who works as a tour
guide in southern Chile. Grandson
Gregory Tooth phoned from
Calgary, Alberta to congratulate her.
Viola Adams brought a carnation
corsage and pinned it on. Wilma
Higgins brought lunch from John
and Leona Johnston's anniversary
celebration at Molesworth.
She received many beautiful cards.
Barb and Max McLellan, Crystal,
Candice and Chelsey played a happy
birthday tape to Winona. Jim and
Lois Lee invited John and Winona to
their country home for supper at 5
p.m. Wow!
They enjoyed a meal of wine, roast
beef, potatoes, carrots, gravy, horse-
radish, beets.
Winona was escorted to a special
chair where a big birthday balloon
was tied.
After the main course came a
birthday cake with a sparkling can-
dle. Even Hoover the dog and two
cats attended.
Winona said she hopes if she
reaches 95 that people won't make
such a fuss over her, although it was
greatly appreciated.

Brussels began another year with a
delicious potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m.
on Tuesday, Sept. 11. There was an
excellent turnout of members.
The meeting followed with a
report from Past District Deputy
President Sister Elva Brown, who
attended the Rebekah Assembly of
Ontario sessions in London.
Sister Lorraine Edwards informed
members about what had taken place
at the Inaugural meeting in Clinton
on Wednesday. Aug. 29.
Installation will be held on
Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Card parties with a casserole sup-
per due to be held .in November,
February and March. Dates will be
announced soon. The Rebekah
Assembly of Ontario. President will
visit the district in early December.
Members are thinking of their shut-
in sisters Mary Lowe, Retta Hoover,
Leona Connelly and Jean Bridge,
who is in Wingham hospital.
As I write this the glories of
autumn are again evident — the warm
sun, the dew on the grass and the
subtle changes in the trees and plants
tell us it's time for fall.
The children are also switching
gears as they tuck away the ball
gloves and soccer shoes and relive
their moments of glory in the game.
Then it's onward as they quickly dig
out the hockey sticks and skate cov-
ers ready for the next round of fun
and games.
From the sounds of laughter at the
ball park the last couple of weekends
the adults of both genders from the
community league also know how to
have lots of fun. And, it was also
good to hear that the 'Old Boys' beat
an unnamed team 18 - 0 — yes, that
was a zero. So next year — dust off

A good crowd was at the United
Church on Sunday evening as Joan
Golden, Huron Perth Presbytery and
members of the Brussels Ethel pas-
toral charge held a Covenanting
service recognizing the role of each
in this union. Joan's mother and sis-
ter, as well as her children, Steven
and Pam, werai able to celebrate this
moment with the congregation, the
Presbytery members and visitors
from places like Kirkton, St. Marys.

munity. This new union is a blessing
as Joan continues her studies in
Diaconal Ministry.
Waneta Leishman and crew were
pleased with the participation in the
Terry Fox event on Sunday. Close to
$4,000 was raised as about 40 folks
walked, biked, jogged and solicited
for the cause. The memory of our
hero Terry and the reality of cancer
in our loved ones makes t his an
ongoing, worthwhile project. Thanks
