It was another quiet weekend at the
Brussels Legion Branch but that is
going to change this weekend. There
will be Friday night supper, Saturday
euchre, Sunday breakfast and a sin-
gles dance.
Saturday evening is the
Ambassador of the fair event with
supper and speeches beginning at 8
p.m. All the past ambassadors have
been invited back to share the
evening and celebrate the 140th
anniversary of the Brussels Fall Fair.
This past Friday night supper of
lasagna had a smaller turnout but a
hungry one. This weelds roast pork.
Saturday was the early bird draw
for the elimination draw, being held
Sept. 22. The winners were Carmen
and Mary Bernard, Mami Dingman
and John and Penny Lansink. There
are still some tickets available.
Cadets have started again on
Tuesday evenings. Maybe you have
a girl or boy interested in basic mili-
tary training, discipline, outdoor sur-
Ethel-area resident Robin Dunbar
has been appointed to the Southern
Ontario Library Service Board by
Tim Hudak, minister of tourism, cul-
ture and recreation.
Dunbar has been a member of the
Huron County Library Board since
he served as Grey Twp. reeve.
***
There will be no money coming
from the county to help Morris-
Turnberry make improvements to
the building housing the Bluevale
library.
The township had requested a
$500 a year rental for the library but
the library board confirmed its poli-
cy of not paying rent on the branch-
3-type libraries.
Bluevale was one of six such
libraries, recommended for closure
in 1996. When local municipalities
refused• to close them, the payment
of maintenance grants was cut

the experience.
The Brussels fair is next
Wednesday so get your goodies
organized and crime to share fair day
with friends. We are so lucky to live
in a community that has a fall fair
with such a long history and that is
only because of the volunteers who
.know it's important and support it
year round. Thank you.
The folks at the United Church are
getting things together for a silent
auction in October. There will be lots
to view Oct. 26 and 27 that could
make your Christmas shopping easy.
So come and place your bid.
Everybody wins. You get neat things
and the church enjoys your company
and the profits which will be used for
the business of running the church.
The ladies at 5R's are getting
ready to celebrate 10 years of busi-
ness in Brussels. Don't you remem-
ber all the negative comments about
a thrift shop making a go of it in
Brussels? In fact there are now thrift
shops in many places and like ours
vival techniques and some good fun.
Drop into the Branch on Tuesday
evening at 7 p.m. to see what goes on
and have a chance to speak to
Captain Grobbo. New members are
always welcome to the corps.
The annual bus trip to Parkwood is
Sept. 29. If anyone is interested in
going on the bus call the Branch by
Saturday, Sept. 15.
Dues are now being accepted for
the 2002 year. The rates will increase
Dec. 1, 2001.
Next week is celebrated across the
province as Legion Week for the
Royal Canadian Legion. It is an
opportunity for all to reflect on what
Canadian Legion's strive to promote,
a spirit of community service and to
support the interest and well-being of
the brave men and women who
served our country during • wartime.
The Legion ltas supported youth and
senior programs and events through-
out the years.
Our own Branch 218 has support-
ed Brussels Minor Hockey PeeWee
off.

community. If you have pictures or
stories you'd like to share — drop into
the store as we're planning a cele-

revive the live mannequins in the

to schedule past board members and
volunteers for their moment in the

County council briefs
Autumn is upon us — a real quick
change last week in the mood and in
the weather, and suddenly we are
into the next season.
As for me and mine we had a great
summer — lots of reading and canoe-
ing and swimming and visiting — all
the stuff that makeS for a good sum-
mer. Now onto the fall lineup of life.
School is back and the kids are
already into routine. The parents are
happy ,and skipping to have a little
order in their life. The college and
university crowd has left summer
jobs and students are getting ready
for the work of their future. Enjoy
