THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2001 --4/7/ 40th Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion Couple shares anniversary month with Reunion Collecting Marilyn Craig, who married her husband Don the weekend after the first Thresher Reunion, has collected memorabilia from the event for years including buttons that date back to the 1970s as well as every plate since the first (on the left) was sold. The most recent plate is on the right. By Bonnie Gropp Citizen staff Marilyn and Don Craig will not likely ever forget how old the Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion is. The Blyth-area couple, after all, have an anniversary in common. The weekend after the first Reunion was held in 1961, the Craigs were married. An attendee of the steam show since she can remember, Marilyn began collecting memora- bilia in 1975 when she purchased her first but- ton. Then the year of the Reunion's and the Craigs' anniversary, Marilyn picked up one of the commemorative plates, a practice she has continued ever since. "I have them all along my stairway," she says of her collection. "I We welcome everyone to the 40th Annual Thresher Reunion Huron Fuel Injection Limited Phone/Fax: (519) 482-7971 1-800-320-0666 huron.fuel.injection@on.aibn.corn a i. .. • Servicing Diesel Pumps and Injectors rJ • Cleaning and Flow Testing Gasoline Injectors • Turbo Charger Service • Alternator and Starter Service • Factory Trained Service Technician Highway 4 South P.O. With sometimes only 25 plates made for each Reunion, Marilyn makes sure she gets one picked up early so her tradition can con- tinue. "I had it in my head when I got the first one that I would like to keep going." And the price is right for this avid collector. "They don't cost much more than they did 15 years ago." A Moment in the Past Over 500 people attended the first show, which took place in the fall of 1962 at the Blyth fairgrounds. By 1986, the people attracted to the three-day event numbered 12,000.
