Huron E. considers
plan to put police

Huron E. briefs
Council
opposes
grant
use
Council decided to oppose the use
of some of the Futures grant that
would make a one-call centre for
property assessment.
Although the regional office in
Goderich will not be closing, people
could now be calling a centre that
distributes the calls.
According to Councillor Larry
McGrath, these call centres are a
'disaster' as people are forced to
wait on the phones for too long.
"I don't like hanging on the phone
for 15 minutes," he said
Council will oppose the call centre
at the next AMO meeting.

Council voted in favour of joining
the Egmondville water system to
Seaforth's system to save money.
Egmondville users will have to pay
an additional $100 for six years to
change the system over.

• Mayor Lin Steffler said she had
been receiving a number of com-
plaints from Brussels residents about
tractor trailers being parked at pri-
vate residences.
The tractors start early in the
morning and wake up the neigh-
bours.
In Seaforth, tractor trailers are
banned from being parked at a pri-
vate residence's home, but in
Brussels there are no such bylaws.
Council will look into the issue.
***
Council wondered what to do with
the empty water tower in Seaforth.
According to Clerk-Administrator
Jack McLachlan, it would cost
$40,000 to take it down safely.
***
Council passed a resolution that
events serving alcohol at the
Winthrop park must seek approval
from the municipality,
***
Council debated over what to do
with a farmer in Grey Ward who cut
down two trees on municipal land.
It was suggested a councillor go
and talk with him and ask him to
plant new trees.

There are plans in the works to
develop a police presence in Brussels
in the old clerk's .office under the
library.
At the, Aug. 14 Huron East council
meeting, Mayor Lin Steffier
announced the plans after. Brussels
Councillor Greg Wilson asked what
was going to be done.
The municipality has asked the
Police Services Board to set up shop
in the old office:
Since the in Huron East run
under a contract, asking them to open
a Brussels office is pretty plausible,
Treasurer Brad Knight said.
According to Knight with an office
in Brussels the police would be more
visible to the people in the northern
areas of the municipality. The office
would also prove a convenience after
doing work in Brussels.
"Officers could do paperwork

there rather than going to Wingham
or Seaforth," Knight said.
The office may need some repair
work before the police move in, but
the municipality is hoping it is not
too much.
Although no one will be perma-
nently stationed in Brussels, it makes
the police's presence better known,
Knight said.
